I don't care about The House of Elliot, Poldark or any costum drama that has no place in a documentary section. Take them all off and put them on a drama channel Tongue

Dear Rosie, Peter and all who email UKTV

Just a point to remember when reading "and also the possibility of purchasing further series in order to carry on the story."

In real life, The House Of Elliot came to an abrupt halt after a fire destroyed the interior sets and it was considered too expensive to rebuild. Yesterday have shown 24 of the 34 episodes which are available. The 12 episodes of series 3 were never completed, the last 2 were never either filmed or completed. The series is filmed in Clifton, Bristol which is where I live and was big news at the time. Lastly the costumes were sold in December 2008 at a grand sale of costumes in Elstree to the public. See for yourself. [link]

It seems not only cutting series mid viewing is not benith Yesterday executives, giving the impression they can produce miracles is acceptable as well.

All we wanted them to do was show the whole series, but then we are probably the narrow 25-40 year old professional couples they are targeting as their audience.

UKTV intend to rebrand history in the same way they created the brand Dave. The difference is that Dave was a success because it identified a market that wasn't being catered to. While there maybe a market for popular recent history, there is an established market for factual historical programming with a longer view of history, which we members of and who they intend to leave un-catered for. I hardly call that progress.

UKTV was the most interesting of all UKTV programs. It was why I gave up Top-Up TV. I didn't watch or miss any of the others. I doubt I'll watch Yesterday again. I had hoped this was a 'teething' problem. Now I'm convinced they are happy just to slash viewers with a more traditional appreciation of history.

The two books you are looking for are called The House of Eliott by Jean Marsh and A House at War by Elizabeth O'Leary

Dear Rosie,

Thank you for your email.

Season two of The House of Eliott ended last week. As UKTV History has recently been re-branded to Yesterday, there are new shows which are taking priority for the time being. However, we are looking into repeating The House of Eliott on Yesterday later in the year, and also the possibility of purchasing further series in order to carry on the story.

We value all feedback, and are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with this decision. It is always useful for us to know what viewers like or dislike about our channel. We will pass your comments to the relevant department.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Here's some more info and names, if you want to vent your spleen at them. It's from The TV Room. [link]

UKTV statement about the new channel: "Yesterday is a place where the past is always present. On this channel the past will be evoked in a way that is more vivid and relevant to viewers than ever before. As well as the high quality history series that viewers would expect, there will be an emphasis on the history of our own lifetimes. Classic series such as 'Seven Ages Of Rock' and the 'Alan Clark Diaries' as well as new acquisitions such as 'International Terrorism' will help Yesterday put our lives today into context."

Matthew Littleford, UKTV controller explains: "Yesterday sets out to redefine what a history channel can be about. We promise to deliver a channel packed with shows that offer a more inclusive, accessible and entertaining approach to the past. This change adds to the excitement already created by our new brands Eden and Blighty and together our three new factual channels will be a major draw for audience into the documentary section of the EPG."

Jane Mote, director of factual, lifestyle and new media, adds: "There has been an explosion of interest in personal history recently witnessed by the growth of genealogy and the popularity of nostalgia based programmes. Yesterday will be a place where viewers can indulge in the past without apology. The greatest stories, greatest music and greatest characters of the past are captured here in all their glory."

Richard Kingsbury has been confirmed as channel head of Yesterday. Currently channel head of UKTV History and UKTV Food, Kingsbury will lead Yesterday through its re-launch, working closely with Jane Mote to develop the long term strategy for the channel.

The new channel idents and positioning are being developed by UKTV’s marketing team in conjunction with Red Bee Media.

Hey guys.

I think I've found the answer as to why The House of Elliot (and Poldark) were cut and why no programmer has responded to the views expressed on this message board.

I found this very interesting passage on the Wikipedia's Yesterday (TV channel)
"However as stated on UKTV History's website, Yesterday would focus only on the recent past such as the 50's and 60's with little emphasis being placed on World changing events such as the First World War, the Napoleonic Era, and the Medieval and Roman Periods. This has raised [link] with regular viewers of the channel."

I really thin their heads must be stuck right up somewhere where the sun don't shine, because there hasn't been a single attempt of audience research or marketing to back up such a shallow interpretation of history.

I think the biggest joke is on them. Freeview has truncated hours to encourage us to pay a subscription to see the extended hours on Virgin (joint owner of UKTV with BBC) or Sky.

Yeah right! Don't watch, buy and be incharge of your own programming.

For the start of a new TV channel, the high handed arrogance of 'Yesterday' programmers seem bent on turning shooting themselves in the foot into full blown suicide.

If at the end of the it's first week of re-branding, faithful viewers would rather buy the series that stay with the channel, what does this indicate for the future.

The absence of any comment from 'Yesterday' indicates they are totally unconcerned with viewers comments, is to say the least, a unique attitude. The irony is that announcing a re-running of the whole series of House of Elliot (and Poldark who's viewers are in a similar situation) would give a boost to viewing numbers for guaranteed lengths of time. Repeats of Antiques Roadshow and Catherine Cookson guarantees declining viewers on Sunday afternoon in their advertised 'Passion Period'.

I've had a reply of sorts from uktv (below) which seems to indicate that they had shown all the series that they had bought (did they only buy series 1 & 2! Confused ). Are they going to buy series 3? Who knows! Why did they not say last Sunday that it was the last episode of the series 2 - they had plenty of opportunities over the three hours? Anyway, email reads as follows:-

Dear Peter,

Could you please find the time to give the regular veiwers of The House of Elliot the final series, also would be really happy if a fourth series was to be made, might be a help to the BBC, as I believe it was there first. I really enjoyed the series but was so disappointed when it wasn't on without warning, please let us have this wonderful program back on Yesterday.
Thanks Christine Angry

Thanks Rosie

I've just purchased by copy of H.O.E. Series 3 via a certain auction site. £14.99 for the 4xDVD's from a seller based in the Netherlands (includes postage).

YeSTERDAY channel have IMHO treated their regular Sunday afternoon viewers very badly and deserve to lose viewers (who's to say that another series that we get into is not going to suddenly be shelved). I for one will avoid getting into such series on YeSTERDAY channel and will stick to just the one-off programs that they transmit!

I am very dissapointed to say the least that Yesterday has stopped showing The House of Eliott. After being at work all week I enjoyed watching this programme which represents far better programme quality than a lot of the rubbish currently being aired.

Yesterday should have had the courtesy to provide their viewers with some prior notice.

Does anybody know whether we saw all of series two? I suspect we didn't and want to know whether I need to purchase series two and three or just series three. Any info would be gratefully received.

Why yEsterday has done this god only knows. Shows a certain amount of arrogance on their part and lack of respect to the viewer.

My partner and I we enjoying the series and was my partners parents and also other friends of ours who we had recommended the series to (and they had said how enjoyable and well done this series was)

What has happened to the House of Elliott that my wife has been watching for the last umpteen weeks?

I used to be able to have a peaceful Sunday afternoon reading the paper whilst this wishy washy show was on in the background. Now it seems my wife wants me to talk to her all afternoon! Shame on you!

I'm with everyone else! It's not fair to just stop something in the middle without warning. It's so frustrating and arrogant when TV channels do this. At the very least there should have been lots of warnings at the end of each episode last week, so that people would have known not to tune in today (or as in my case, for the first time in the series' remember to turn my video recorder on so I could catch the start of the first episode of the day rather than just tuning in in time for the end of it!).

They put lots of energy into telling us of the launch of Yesterday, just some of that directed at letting us know what was staying and what was going would have been more useful!

Sun 8 Mar 2009, 1.23PM

What a let down! It's never a good idea to drop a good show that people are enjoying. The channel is trying to get a new image, but dropping good television is not the way to do it! I'm so disappointed, and I don't feel like watching the channel anymore.

This is very annoying! I have just switched on to watch my favourite (my 3rd time around) period drama - and I'm being faced with the Antiques Roadshow instead. Time to turn over channels methinks! Do the TV programmers know how annoying this is for viewers? To be in the middle of a series and then to have it removed without a by-your-leave and no apologies at all! It's the sort of action that loses viewers for ever. I have boycotted G.O.L.D since they took EastEnders off without any warning. (I know that it's now back on on Watch and do watch that.) I'll see how it goes with Yesterday but I'm not too impressed so far. There are so many other channels to choose from, so they should be a little more considerate to their faithful viewers. Confused

I too have joined to vent my anger in Yesterday pulling the excellent period drama "House of Elliot" off air part way through the series and without announcement.

Is this the way that us viewers deserve to be treated?

Sunday afternoons are not the same without H.O.E.

Shame on you Yesterday for treating your viewers like this! Angry

I was dismayed when I turned on at 1pm today to discover The House of Elliot has been taken off air. I didn't see it when it was first shown, and I have really got inot it. Please, please when will it be back on?

I've just joined Yesterday because I am absolutely gutted that House of Eliott has been taken off! Why did this happen? It's obvious that alot of people enjoy the show. I don't watch much TV and it was the only thing I watched on the History channel and I looked forward to watching it every Sunday. Please put it back on Frown

Eek I have wasted a lot of time looking for when today's episodes of House of Eliot were scheduled after I retuned my Freeview box to 'Yesterday'. I then googled 'House of Eliot' and see it is not showing at all. I have emailed UK TV as suggested, and would like to add my comment that they absolutely can't leave us in suspense to know what happens next! Does Jack go to America with the sisters or not?
Someone mentioned there are two books The House of Eliot and something with 'War' in the title. Can anyone tell me more, ie the full title and also who they are by?
Thanks!
PS If anyone lives in Hertfordshire I would love to borrow the DVDs of the 3rd series.
