A landmark series that provides a definitive history of global rock music from its emergence 50 years ago through to its continual re-imaginings and reinventions.
The series kicks off with a look at the blues-based rock revolution of the 1960s, and examines the influence of rhythm and blues in music from pioneers such as Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Cream and The Who. It also looks at how the songwriting of Bob Dylan and studio developments from The Beatles created a legacy for rock music to flourish in following decades.
With the Velvet Underground, Genesis and Pink Floyd showing that rock could be a vehicle for abstract, avant-garde ideas in the 1970s and the punk movement proving that the genre could be a medium for revolution, Seven Ages Of Rock looks at the development of some of rock music’s biggest names and discovers how different scenes – from heavy metal to British indie – sprung up from nowhere.

The Police are a pop band with heavy reggae influences, so what are they doing on a series purporting to be about rock? If 'The 7 Ages of Pop' was made, would you see Led Zeppelin? I don't think so.
