We're Off To See The Wizard
The Wizard Of Oz, believed to be the most-watched film in history, commenced filming on October 12th 1938 at MGM Studios in California. Directed by Victor Fleming, who also directed Gone With The Wind, the film was based on the novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz by L Frank Baum.
This image shows Ray Bolger, Judy Garland and Jack Haley as the Scarecrow, Dorothy and the Tinman. The film won two Oscars for its music – best original score and best original song (Over The Rainbow). Premiering in 1939, it wasn't initially a huge commercial success, but has now become an icon, consistently topping charts of the best films of all time.
