Mozart's Quartets
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the world's most popular classical composers, published
six string quartets on September 1st 1785, dedicating them to his friend and fellow composer Joseph Haydn. The quartets, which are now known as the Haydn Quartets, are among some of Mozart's most famous works.
Mozart was born on 27th January 1756 and started playing the harpsichord at the age of three. By the time he was four he was playing minuets and by five composing short pieces. In this lithograph, Mozart is seen at the harpsichord, with his father Leopold playing the violin and his sister Marie singing during a concert in Paris. Mozart was seven at the time.
