Surely the new series of spooks that started tonight should be series 6 and not 7. It does not follow on from last weeks episode at the Thames Barrier, that episode was the last in Series 5

This is ridiculous. I accept that there may be good reasons for Watch to skip series 6, but I see no good reason that they should refuse to explain why.
There are at least 3 mssage board threads asking why it was skipped, all calling for a Watch / UKTV official comment, and they have all been ignored.
I tried browsing the website for answers, and it's becoming apparent to me that they simply don't care. If you click on "Shows" followed by "Drama" the only link for Spooks says "Spooks series 3 and 4". It actually links to a synopsis of series 7. A synopsis that (a) tells you about the death of a major character (plot spoiler warning anyone?) and (b) includes a supposed synopsis of the end of series 6, which is actually an incorrect synopsis of the end of series 5!
Just in case it's worth anything I'd like to add my voice to the call for an explanation, PLEASE!

very disappointed with going straight to series 7. I have been watching religiously on Wednesdays nights since the re-run began. Can a Watch official respond please, thank you

thought I'd lost the plot but obviously not. So why have we skipped a whole series? How frustrating! Is anybody out there who can/will explain??

What has happened to series 6, i'm a big fan who didn't see them the first time around on the beeb, this is really anoying, perhaps someone from uktv's watch channel could comment and put us out of our misery

I'm really annoyed about it! Series 6 was the one I hadn't seen before. Is anyone from Watch going to comment then??

Perhaps the story lines are too politically sensitive to broadcast. I've read that in series six the US prepared a pre-emtive war against Iran.Surely that wouldn't happen,would it?
