Measuring

With your soft measuring tape, drape it around the rod and decide how far down you would like your swag to hang to determine the length of the fabric.
Then measure the space between the rod brackets to determine the fabric width.

Cutting out and sewing

Cut out your main swag fabric and your lining fabric to the desired length and width, adding on 5/8in (15mm) seam allowance on all sides.
With right sides together and edges even, pin then sew the fabric and lining together with a 5/8in (15mm) seam, leaving a 10in (25cm) gap on one side.
Trim the seams close to the stitching and press open. Clip the corners so they won't be bulky.
Through the opening, turn the fabric right-side out. Sew the gap close with an invisible slipstitch. Press.

Draping

Mark the centre of the swag with masking tape to make it easier to orient it when you're moving it around the window.
Hang the swag on your curtain rod and arrange the drapes. Make sure it's centred and the ends are even.

Tip: For fuller drapes, stuff some crumpled newspaper or tissue paper behind the swag to plump it up.

Dressing the ends

It's easy to dress up your swag with ribbons, fringes, flowers, tassels and cords. Simply add before hanging.

Tip: Try making rosettes at the corners of the swags using rubber bands. Simply pull the material through and puff up to hide the bands. Attach to the ends of the curtain rod if desired.
