No one carried off glamour quite like the Hollywood greats. This was an era when fashion saw a return to a more ladylike appearance with accentuated busts, waspish waists and silhouette-skimming tailoring. Get the movie goddess look by day with a tailored suit that's cinched in at the waist and has shoulder pads to rival the cast of Dallas. Or opt for a more feminine skirt that's longer at the back than the front and is cut on the bias to softly mould to your figure, creating an hourglass look.

By night, aim for high glamour with a leopard print, figure hugging shift dress teamed with platform courts; or a Monroe-style chiffon Grecian style dress worn with hair pinned back in soft waves. For extra fabulousness, add a fake fur stole and brooch, long satin evening gloves and a scarlet pout.
