Make Your Own Soaps

Make Your Own Soaps

Making your own soaps to match your bathroom couldn't be easier. Experiment with different colours, moulds and scents, and give and elementary lift to your bathroom. They're the ultimate signature scent!

Time to complete the job: 20 minutes - then setting overnight.
Approximate budget: Glycerine soap base from £3.50 for 500g.

You will need:

  • Glycerine soap base
  • Food colouring
  • Essential oils in desired scent (try classic lavender or fresh lemon)
  • Flexible ice cube tray
  • Measuring cup
  • Cotton buds
  • Vaseline

Step 1: Cut up your soap base

Clear, unscented glycerine soap base is readily available from any craft shop - 500g will easily make a couple of ice cube trays of soap.
Chop up your glycerine base into cubes to make them easier to melt.

Step 2: Prepare the moulds

If you're using rigid moulds, use a cotton bud to carefully spread some Vaseline inside each container - this will help the soaps to pop out easily after they've set.
If you're using flexible moulds, make sure the moulds are clean and dry.
