Choosing Glasses

Fashion stylist and TV presenter Gok Wan is as famous for his flamboyant choice in glasses as he is for How To Look Good Naked, his first solo show for Channel 4. If you're on the hunt for a new pair of specs, watch Gok's video to find out how to work out what suits you, plus read his tips on how to wear you hair and make-up to make the most of your new frames.

• If you're short sighted your lenses will make your eyes appear smaller so apply bold make-up to emphasise them. Use lighter colours on the inner corners, blending into deeper, darker shades at the outer corners to add emphasis and to make your eyes look bigger. Don't forget to use a dark or lash-building mascara.

• If you're long sighted, your lenses will make your eyes appear magnified. Apply make-up sparingly and blend colours carefully. Dark mascara gives definition, but avoid harsh eyeliners or thick mascara - blobs and smudges will be magnified too!

• All specs-wearers should opt for an under eye concealer which contains light-reflecting particles.

• With long hair check how different frames look with your hair loose, held back or bunched on top of your head. Keep your fringe regularly trimmed so that it's not too long or too heavy.

• If you have a short hair style, experiment with bold designs or more decorative styles to draw attention to your face

• Frames should be no higher than the line of your eyebrows. The lower edge should not sit on your cheeks, even when you smile

• And most importantly, frames, colours and styles can also reflect your personality so don't be afraid to experiment!

Gok Wan is presenting Specsavers' Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards 2008. Visit the Specsavers website to find out how to apply or to enter the prize draw to win an all-expenses paid trip to the Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards ceremony at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel in London on 21 October.
