Buying in Suffolk
To many the Suffolk coast is known as the sunrise coast, as it is home to some of the most easterly villages in England. The coastline stretches from Felixstowe to Southwold and is only about 40 minutes by train to London. The Suffolk coast was declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a source of inspiration to countless artists, writers and musicians.
The buyers
Landscape gardener Steve and his wife Janet are upping sticks from their large county house near Ipswich. Now their kids have grown up and fled the nest, it's time for them to follow their own dreams. Their large garden takes up too much of their time at weekends, so they want to leave it all behind and start afresh. They are keen to relocate to a busy seaside community and if there is enough money left in the budget buy a holiday apartment in Portugal.
Why Suffolk?
Due to the vulnerability of this delicate coast, there are a limited number of properties with direct sea views. Despite the steady increase in prices over the last five years, you can still hunt out some decent bargains. Aldeburgh and Southwold and the most popular places to buy in Suffolk and property and the price of property reflects this trend.
Prices in Felixstowe are 10% cheaper than Aldeburgh and Southwold. The promenade is gradually being regenerated, and has a distinct cosmopolitan feel. Woodbridge which sits on the Deben estuary is another favourite.
