OCD - Pulling Out Hair
Twenty-nine-year-old Farhana is a bright, lively and attractive woman who has an obsessive compulsive urge to pull out her hair. She finds it comforting and not painful, but dreams of a full head of hair.
Farhana has no idea where her compulsion comes from. She's had the condition since she was seven and, to all but her family, it's a secret. Amazingly, even her former partner, who fathered her four children, never knew. She wore a headscarf in bed telling him that she had eczema and she didn't want to scratch.
Although not actively religious, Farhana is a Muslim which she says, is very convenient because it means she can wear a headscarf at all times. When she removes the headscarf you can see her tufted hair and a bald patch at the back about four inches in diameter.
She has tried shaving her head and a number of unsuccessful alternative therapies but is still searching for a way to get over her disorder. Can Nik and Eva Speakman help Farhana to let her hair down for the first time in over 20 years? Tune in to find out!
