Top Ten Tips: Planning a Dirty Weekend

There's nothing like a weekend away to reconnect you as a couple and put the vroom back into the bedroom. In fact, sex therapist Tracey Cox recommends that a naughty weekend should become a six-weekly essential for every modern couple. So why are so few of us giving it a go?

The classic dirty weekend is dying! In a recent survey by Teletext Holidays, two thirds of British couples admitted they haven't been away for some quality time in the past year. The pressures of modern life are taking the adventure out of our relationships with most couples spending less than 24 hours with their loved one per week. So when you do manage to take time out from everyday life to inject some spice back into your sex life, what can you do to make the most of it?

Here are our top tips for creating the perfect weekend getaway with your partner:

1. Go somewhere new
Go somewhere completely unfamiliar to both of you so that you can spend time exploring together and your memories of that place will forever be based on your shared experiences. You don't even have to go far from home - one of the three Bs (Brighton, Bournemouth or Bath) is always a good bet.

2. Choose romantic accommodation
Since you'll probably be spending a lot of time in your hotel room (ahem), make sure it has a bit of personality. The Travelodge might be fine for a quick stopover but it's hardly conducive to a long, steamy session. There are plenty of lovely hotels around to choose from or if you fancy something a little bit different, check out the National Trust Cottages website for romantic cottages, castles and other interesting venues throughout the UK.

3. Plan a lie-in
Having a lie-in is one of life's little luxuries that we don't often find time to do and a very intimate way to relax together. If you really want to get it right, arrange to have breakfast in your room and remember: there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a glass of champagne of a morning.

4. Turn off your technology
The whole point of the weekend is to really get away from it all, so it's a good idea to turn off your mobile phones and ban the telly during your stay. This will force you both to disconnect yourselves from everyday life and focus completely on each other.

5. Dress the part
Just because he says he still fancies you when you wear your jogging bottoms and bobbled jumper, making an effort to look your best will make you fee sexier and more adventurous. If you can afford it, investing in some new sexy underwear will be a nice surprise for him and will help to get you both in the mood.
