Getting to Know You
When it comes to sex, and what's more, good sex, it's very easy to assume that it's all about satisfying the other person. Try and satisfy their every need and hey presto, you're having the best sex you possibly can, right? Wrong! This is meant to be a shared experience, you know. They should be making you feel good too. Thing is, before you can even begin to do that, you need to know what it is that you like. And who's the best person to explore your body and discover what gets you going? Yep, it's you. It's time to get to work, home alone...
Know thy sexual self
While masturbation is often treated as taboo, spending time learning how you respond to different types of touch and discovering erogenous zones in all your various nooks and crannies is seen by some as plain weird. And yet it is vital to learn what your own body likes. No one is born knowing what turns them, or anyone else, on sexually. It's something you have to discover. Working out what your body likes and how it reacts to different sensations will help you relax in intimate situations and focus on your sexual needs.
Sexual healing
The other barrier many people find in their approach to their sexual self is that exploring your own body can be associated with guilt. As children, we are on a constant self-discovery of our bodies and as experimentation develops, this usually moves towards masturbations. At this point, many of us can receive negative feedback from parents, being rebuked for touching ourselves leading to an association of sexual exploration being "a bad thing".
Of course, youths will be youths and masturbation will still be going on but for some boys, they may feel a need to do this hurriedly - heaven forbid they should be caught. These feelings can lead to premature ejaculation later in life. As for girls, many grow up feeling as if they should never admit to ever doing it, let alone do it with or in front of a partner.
The only way is up
So, before we go any further, the key thing is to banish these negative thoughts - forever! They serve no purpose and belong to another time in your life. Discovering and nurturing your sexual self is an important and healthy thing to do. If you do feel a bit guilty, or even silly, spending so much time on yourself, remember that if you know your body better, you're going to enjoy sex much more, enrich your sex life and make sex as fulfilling for you and your partner as possible. You'll become a far more confident person, too.
