Chic on the Cheap Cont
Traid
Traid's a far cry from your usual charity shop crammed with dodgy home-knits and stretched H&M jeans. Here donated clothes are hand sorted, or redesigned and reconstructed by student designer types to make new recycled garments, and sold for charity in Traid's London and Brighton shops. You'll still need to do some rummaging to find something that's suits you but your fashion-conscious eye will need far fewer honing-in skills than in your average Age Concern.
Where: Check out the Traid website to find your nearest stockist.
Great for: Retro bits and bobs, particularly shoes, hats and accessories.
Top shopper's tip: Get friendly with your local Traid store assistant. They'll be able to tell you when the new stock arrives, so you'll be first in line for the best bargains!
London Outlet Stores
Living in one of the most expensive cities in the world does have its advantages when you consider the plethora of outlet and factory stores available to cash-strapped London shoppers. Many designer labels sell their surplus and sale stock at knock-down prices at their outlet stores, though you have to take a pot-luck approach to shopping rather than visiting with something specific in mind. Here's our round-up of the Big Smoke outlets for all you lucky London bargain-hunters...
