To find out where your nearest boot sale is, check out the ads in your local paper or ask around. Or you can look on the internet – if you live in North London, Essex or Hertfordshire, for example, you can find out about ten car boot sale sites every week on the Countryside Promotions website.

If you think this might turn into a regular habit, then you should think about subscribing to either UK Fayres (for £5.99 a year) or Car Boot Calender (for £8.99 a year). Both sites list thousands of car boot sales every month and Car Boot Calender also boasts the world’s biggest booting forum (now there’s a boast!)

A word of warning though. Although car boot sales are great fun and potentially quite lucrative, there’s something about the atmosphere that’ll bring out the market trader in you. It could be the friendly chitchat about the weather, the haggling over prices or just the general camaraderie, but before you know it, you’ll be shouting ‘two for a pound’ in a cockney accent and rubbing your hands with glee every time 50p changes hands. And don’t whatever you do even think about buying what look like bargains from other people. You’ll only end up tripping over them this time next year!
