Don't Bin It, Boot It!

We've all got once-treasured objects that we haven't the heart to chuck out. But if you've got a whole house full of junk then it's time to take action, and cash in at the same time. Join the millions of car booters who can quite rightly claim to be at the heart of the boom in secondhand shopping in Britain.

There are now nearly 110,000 car boot sales across the country, according to the UK Fayres website. So if you've got a spare few hours next weekend, why not collect up all your junk and get booting? There's probably one just around the corner from you, all you need is a car (or a van if you're ambitious) and plenty of junk. You've got nothing to lose apart from the entry fee, which is normally around £3 to £12 per car.

It's a good idea to turn up fairly early, as that's when the 'real dealers' arrive. Have your items properly marked up with prices before you get there as they'll swoop almost as soon as you open up the boot. They'll want a good deal so they'll try and cut you down - you can try to haggle but remember that even though you were once fond of that slightly chipped vase you're there to get rid of it.

If you've got quite a bit of stock, then you should take along a large table to display it on. Plus a couple of chairs and a thermos of coffee if you think you might be there for a few hours. Some small change and a pouch to keep your money in will also come in handy.
