Put Your Money Where Your House Is III
Add Value
Without the help of a TV show budget and the advice of a property expert, it's not always easy for the rest of us to add value to our homes. Renovations, and builders, cost a lot of money. Thankfully, there are plenty of quick fixes you can employ to make your house appear worth much more on initial viewing, as Put Your Money Where Your House Is presenter Melissa Porter reveals here with her top tips for adding value...
1. Declutter
The less cluttered your house looks, the more expensive it looks.
2. Neutralise it
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Keep your walls neutral colours. They'll make your place look far more sophisticated. Garish bright colours are a no-no.
3. Wood is good
Wooden floors are really popular nowadays so you might want to put wooden flooring down. Even laminate floors are ok - the quality of these has really gone up.
4. Tidy up the garden
A messy, unkempt garden will put buyers completely off. Treat the back garden to some new plants and put some nicely trimmed bushes in the front garden.
5. Adore your frontage
If it needs it, give your front door a nice new lick of paint. First impressions are huge and this is the first thing most people will notice.
6. Follow your nose
Fill your home with pleasant scents such as sprinkling vanilla essence around the place. Welcoming smells make people feel comfortable and will stick on their memory.
7. The appliance of science
Get some good looking appliances in your kitchen - stainless steel-look fridges and cookers and give the impression of money having been spent.
8. Keep them suite
Make sure your bathroom suite is up to scratch. If not, quickly put a new one in - white is always a winner. Give the illusion of expense, even if in reality it was pretty cheap.
