World Wide Wardrobe
Smart fashion shoppers shun the soggy British high streets for the comfort of their living rooms, picking up bagfuls of bargains without having lug them home on the bus afterwards. Welcome to shopping in the 21st century. It may never replace the thrill of elbowing your way to the front of the crush at Selfridges sale, but we'll always welcome a new and different way to spend our hard-earned dosh.
Here's our round-up of some of the best of the online-only fashion shops... and of the high street ones that have taken the leap.
As Seen On Screen
Seen something on J-lo, Vicky Beckham or Kylie that you quite fancy for yourself? Then As Seen On Screen (ASOS) is the place to hunt it down, or a very good knock-off of it at least. At the time of writing we saw some fab vintage Chloe sunglasses as seen on Pamela Anderson for £40, a Glamour magazine-endorsed "Gwyneth Pleat Dress" for £35 and a pair of yellow Onitsuka Tiger 66 trainers made famous by Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill for £60.
Great for: Glam party dresses and spangly night-on-the-town tops.
The fine print: Standard delivery is £2.95 or free for orders over £40. ASOS will refund or exchange purchases, but you need to cover the cost of returning the item to them.
Yoox
Name-dropping fashionistas on a budget who don't have the time to hit the shops (or, heaven forbid, don't have a Prada store in town) will love this high-end fashion site. Loads of big names are showcased here: from Chloe and Vivienne Westwood to Miu Miu and Marni, so you'll be spoiled for choice. This slick site also features a collectible vintage section featuring designer classics from the past and an Agent Provocateur section for cut-price designer smalls. Watch your Visa with this one girls.
Great for: Once-in-a-lifetime splurges. Like a £350 vintage Valentino suit, for instance.
The fine print: Standard UK delivery is £6.00 and Yoox covers the cost of returned items, provided you organise the return with their preferred courier.
