The Whistance cv is impressive. Starting out in production design Gordon 'did all sorts of weird things including a pop video for David Essex'. Next he found himself art directing Diarmuid Gavin and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen on Home Front and soon landed his first role in front of the camera presenting Housecall. Stints on Planet Patio, Looking Good, Trading Up and Changing Rooms were quick to follow.

Chatting to Gordon is a real pleasure; he's funny and charming and it's easy to see why he was chosen to present Our Home. And he's thrilled to have landed the job. Each week he gets to work alongside a different guest designer as they decorate one of the rooms in the four-bed detached home. He speaks highly of his colleagues. Of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen he says 'he has incredible knowledge and he'll pull something out of the hat that just takes my breath away'. The bedroom designed by Kathryn Rayward bedroom with its decadent magenta walls and gold soft furnishings is 'great. Really well thought out and innovative'. And Graham Wynne's sitting room, a fusion of rich textures and creamy cappuccino colours is 'just gorgeous. No other word for it'.

Inspired by design
Interior design is clearly his passion and he pours heart and soul into his work. Most of his Changing Rooms designs are met with rapturous approval, but there was one woman who just said 'it's alright'. 'I found it desperately upsetting. We'd sweated blood and tears on it! I agree with Oscar Wilde who said 'ambivalence is the worst insult'. He's truly delighted that the house on Our Home is 'actually designed for human beings rather than TV. There's storage, there's reading lights, the doors open on the right side' he enthuses. 'We've really thought about the ergonomics of people living there. It's real life'.
