Mosaic Mirror Tiles
Think disco glitter balls! Decorate your walls and crafts with mosaic mirror tiles for a stylish new look. Debbie Rix tracks down suppliers.
Hello,
Where can I buy the mosaic mirror tiles on a self-adhesive roll? I have tried everywhere online and can't find any but I've seen them used on UKTV Style programmes.
Please help.
Thanks,
Fab Mohoney

Hi there,
Mosaic mirror tiles are available in a variety of guises, but I've not managed to track down self-adhesive rolls. To be honest, unless you simply want to use the tiles to edge things like mirrors or picture frames, you would be better off sticking to more traditional fixing techniques.
You can buy all kinds of mosaics individually: they are available in a huge range of colours and finishes including metallic, mirrored and coloured glass and cost around 15p each. You can create some wonderful designs with them but they are obviously quite labour intensive and you need to use a proper tile adhesive and finish with grout for a really waterproof finish.
It is possible to get them in sheets of various sizes. The online craft supplier Homecrafts sell a material backed sheet measuring 275cm x 250cm which has 110 tiles (25mm x 25mm) on it. Each sheet costs £10.95 (inc VAT) or you can buy a set of four for £38.99. If you're covering a large area, in a bathroom for example, then stick the sheets with tile adhesive and finish with grout. You can buy both these products online. You can also cut the sheets and use the tiles individually (sprinkling them among other mosaic tiles looks particularly effective). Mirror mosaics also make very attractive frames for pictures or indeed, mirrors. If you plan to use them like this cut the sheets into strips and apply them using solvent based glue.
You can also buy sheets of mirror tiles at the Mosaic Workshop who, as their name would suggest, sell a vast range of mosaic products. Their 'Sheeted Mirrorflex' costs £20 for a sheet measuring 600mm x 450mm (the mosaic pieces measure 25mm x 25mm) and includes full fixing instructions. They strongly advise using a cement based adhesive if you're using the tiles on walls, but warn against using it in potentially wet areas like splashbacks as the tiles are too close together to grout them. Mosaic Workshop also sell a product called Mini Mirrors (pictured right) which costs £20 a sheet. This is a plastic backed sheet covered in tiny mosaic mirror pieces measuring only 7mm square (you'd find these covering disco balls). These are better suited to craft projects and can be stuck using either PVA glue or cement based adhesive. Buy both these products online at BAMM (British Association for Modern Mosaic).
Best wishes,
Debbie
