Meet Harry Green

With more than 50 years of experience under his toolbelt, Harry Green practically invented DIY television and has presented and starred in more DIY shows than most have even seen!

Harry Green is widely regarded as the UK's leading DIY expert and was the original developer of the concept of "hands on" DIY television in 1956. This year he celebrates 50 years on TV, his 80th birthday, ten years of weekly DIY shows on QVC and the launch of his amazing new book, The Complete DIY Problem Solver.

Back in the early days of television, when things were black and white, Harry began a lifelong interest in broadcasting and writing about the post-war phenomenon of Do-It-Yourself. Not long afterwards he coined his now famous catchphrase - 'Safety First, DIY Second', which has caught on worldwide.

From his original DIY TV concept in 1957, Harry has devised and written treatments for many TV series, including 12 years working on the Bucknell DIY Series for BBC. In the Eighties he filmed TVam's Dream Home, a year-long DIY series along with his daughter Sarah. Then four years of BBC TV's On The House DIY series followed and a six-year contract with B&Q as their DIY consultant. In 1993, QVC started in the UK and Harry was offered a long contract demonstrating weekly DIY Shows, on which he built an enormous following. During the Nineties came concepts, presenting and treatments for - DIY SOS, DIY Challenge, Troubleshoot, DIY Bazaar, House Doctor, Meet The Challenge, Brainwave DIY, The DIY Show and Housestyle for Granada, DIY Disasters with Richard and Judy's stand-ins for Granada and Changing Rooms and The DIY Show for QVC.

A regular newspaper columnist and Sunday Magazines Home and Garden expert, Harry has improved the homes of Barbara Windsor, Neil Morrissey, Philippa Forrester, Paul McKenna, Sid Owen, Julie Goodyear, Sheila Hancock & John Thaw and many more. He has just finished working on a garden makeover for Eastender's star Shaun Williamson, which was seen recently in Sunday Magazine.
