Rapide Face Dark Intense, £18 for 50ml, by St Tropez
Vivien reports 'a nice easy pump action and a light gel that feels really light to apply. It has a slight tint so it's easy to see where it’s going. The bit that unnerved me was the instructions: 'wash hands THOROUGHLY with soap and a scrub brush. May stain light hair' and also the Dark Intense label. I tested it on a patch on my leg and was surprised how quickly it dried and the result in the morning was a great colour and certainly not as dark as I expected. It also does not have the 'fake tan' smell most products have. I'm now using it on my face and loving it!'Available from: St Tropez

Six of the Best Self Tanners
The Tan Commandments go something like this…1. Defoliate, exfoliate and moisturise.
2. Don latex gloves (10p per pair from your local pharmacy)
3. Stay sober.
4. Apply self tan evenly and carefully, with minimal coverage on joints.
5. Buff with a mitt or dark towel.
6. Go for the ‘double dip’ by repeating steps 2-6.
7. Display your flawless tan in something short and sassy.
