removing scratches from furniture

Due to my job we have moved a few times and our dining table , chairs and sideboard have a few scratch marks.
the scratches are not deep or too big (2-5 mm) but there are a few. Apart from spending money on french polisher is there another way? I have tried wood stain from B&Q but the colour does not match.
I am hoping to firstly clean up the furniture then to stain it. Any help would be appreciated Regards
