Help Me, Help My Child
A staggering one in five children in the UK suffer from psychological problems and up to half of those have the kind of serious mental illnesses normally associated with adults. This fascinating series explores the emotional journeys of parents struggling to cope with their children's mental illnesses.
This emotional real-life series follows children with illnesses ranging from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) to anorexia, as they receive intensive, and emotionally-draining, treatment at the Children's Unit of the Maudsley Hospital in London.
New approaches to conditions have been formulated by a team that includes Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Dr Isobel Heyman, who helps to help children face their deepest fears.
The series starts by meeting two boys, Danny (eight-years-old) and Jack (15-yearsold), who both have OCD. Danny was sent to the hospital after being caught sticking pencils down his throat and trying to gouge out his eyes, while Jack's life has become dominated by cleaning and ordering his possessions.
