SAS Dictionary: a guide to military gobbledygook
Everyone loves to use acronyms. It makes you seem clever and also makes outsiders have a hard time identifying the topic of conversation. The need for secrecy and subterfuge is understandable within this particular company. A few key terms might save your life when you are in a TAB (tactical advance to battle) before you get to your OP (observation post). Just don't miss the ERV, (emergency rendez-vous) or the LUP (lying up point). You'll want to go equipped with an M16 (rifle), an L961A (sniper rifle) and watch out for those PMR 2As (anti personnel mines.)

Who are the Special Air Services?
With a motto of 'who dares wins', the SAS has a reputation as the toughest, most courageous and daring special combat force. Shielded in secrecy, the special ops commandos were developed early on during WWII. David Stirling, a British officer, formed a highly trained force that would go on to create chaos behind enemy lines. Their first assignment was to weaken Rommel's logistics efforts and hinder aircraft operations in North Africa. Active in Northern Ireland against the IRA, in the Falklands and during the Gulf War, the elite unit has reached mythical status.
