Upon arrival for a day’s work at UKTV, it is first things first: breakfast at the café downstairs. Downtime has a great selection of breakfast foods, and depending on how hungry you are, the full fry-up option is always there. Luckily today I just need some cereal.
After checking a few emails it is time for our daily “9:15 meeting” - an informal gathering of the Entertainment team in which we casually talk about the TV industry. Today we chat about how we generate ideas, with the help of a clip from Family Guy.
I spend the rest of the morning writing a creative brief for a 30 second long promotion for “Saturday Nights on Dave” to play across our network of ten channels. This promo will let people know that instead of watching a bunch of talentless morons try to sing or dance on ice on a Saturday night, they could be watching Dave, with its arsenal of witty banter and intelligent programmes.
During my lunch hour, I usually meet a few mates who work in the area or pop into the gym across the road for a quick work out / sit in the jacuzzi. There is also FC Dave, the company’s own football team, which often plays at lunch time.
Filled my afternoon by working on our latest commission for G.O.L.D., Fawlty Towers: Re-opened. It’s my job to tap into the huge fan base and massive heritage associated with this iconic British comedy series, so I research fan pages online to really get under the skin of people who live and breathe Fawlty Towers. Also spent some time working towards the various personal objectives I agreed with my line managers, the Dave and G.O.L.D. marketing managers.
Before too long it is time for home, but not via the pub, as it’s too early in the week for that.
