Robbie - Senior Management Accountant

Squeeze on the hot and sweaty tube for my 40 minute journey to work. Am thankful for my three minute walk to the office down Great Portland Street, allowing me to cool off, resisting the temptation of Starbucks on the way.

It’s Tuesday morning so I have a quick half an hour to get settled into my working day and catch up on my e-mails before the weekly TMM (Tuesday Morning Meeting). It’s the launch of Home, which has been rebranded from UKTV Style, so the whole company has dressed up in their comfiest clothes to celebrate. A lot of pyjamas all round plus an interesting update of the Marketing activity involved, showing us press clips, off-air advertising and on-screen promos.

Back to my desk and time to prepare my monthly shareholder summary report. This looks at the previous month’s financial results, comparing them to planned results and sent to our shareholders BBC Worldwide and Virgin Media. Included in this is a forecast for results until the end of the year and a quick overview of the company’s key initiatives and non-financial performance.

Time for a quick run around Regents Park at lunch time. Thankfully showers in the basement are supplied with shower gel and towels, ensuring a pleasant smell for my colleagues when I get back to my desk.

The afternoon is mostly taken up by meetings. Firstly, a general catch-up with my line manager to see how things are going with my own work and what issues are surrounding the company that affect our financial performance.

Secondly, a meeting with our website team covering both financial and non-financial performance. Also a look at future plans and how the team looks to develop the websites with my key emphasis being on costs and how much revenue can be generated.

I finish the day with a bit of shopping down Oxford Street on my way home.
