White's is very unusual, arguably unique. Chris White is a hugely talented chef whose last restaurant (in Newark) gained a rave review in The Independent and many local fans. He gave it up when the landlord decreed a huge increase in rent, much to sadness of his regulars. Colin and wife Gwen, who ran front of house, put their energies into outside catering and do it wonderfully well. Their new shop was an independent wine shop specialising in Chablis. The Whites have continued with the wine but now sell portions of Chris's creations to dinner party hosts and busy parents who don't have time or skill to match Chris's offerings. It's a bold venture that deserves to succeed and deserves to be better known. review this place now
