All vegetables are home grown. Good range available. Excellent service. Great way to reduce your food miles.

Linscombe has been working with Devon Wildlife Trust over the past 3 months as part of the Confidence in the Countryside Project. As part of this they have been working towards their Devon Wildlife Trust Approval - I can say that they do great work for nature conservation as well as produce fantastic veg. I'm not sure what the local area would do with out them !!!!

What makes the Linscombe Farm box so special? Here are just a few ideas from off the top of my head: * Every single vegetable in my box is grown (lovingly) from seed on the farm - not one item is brought in from anywhere else. * Helen and Phil are passionate about keeping Heritage varieties grown. I'm sure more modern varieties have been bred for an easier life for the farmer and a more reliable (and, therefore, profitable) crop ...but that's not a high priority for Linsombe: they'd rather work harder and be poor than let these crops die out. *They've introduced me to vegetables I'd never even heard of, let alone tasted - kohl rabi and Swiss chard to name just 2! * As a teacher, it's great to take organic vegetables into school! Without banging the drum about it, I can show the children unusual vegetables ... and talk about what organic means (...and,yes! There's mud on the root veg - what a surprise!!) * The boxes have not been driven miles and miles, with all the environmental damage that does (I'm sounding like a real tree-hugger now, and I'm not really!) * It's important in this day and age when we are so far removed from the source of our food, that I am reminded each week that the growing of food is totally reliant on the season and the weather: looking inside my box tells me what is in season and the informative newsletter (nothing fancy or glossy) often tells me why a certain vegatable is abundant or scarce that week. * Again, I am reminded of nature and how our ancestors lived not that long ago, when we have the "Hungry Gap" - how many people nowadays even know what that is, when we can just pop into shops and get anything we want at any time of year?? * Helen and Phil work their socks off ...and not just because they are jumping on the Organic bandwagon to make a quick buck - far from it! - they truly believe in what they are doing and communicate that to their customers without ever making us feel that we are being "converted" to some great cause! * It's honed my (pretty lacklustre) culinary skills - each time I pick up my box it's like Ready, Steady, Cook!! ...oh yes, and the veg are tasty, too!

I have been with Linscombe since they started the box scheme and admire the effort to remain true to their original ethical principles of local food for local people, all organically grown themselves, no imports. They also keep in touch with their customers with regular newsletters in the boxes explaining about the latest on the farm and about the way the veg is grown, what heritage value it has etc, recipes and keeping hints. There is a farm walk annually to show the set-up and wildlife encouragement for all to see. They have not grown too big and commercial and sell only locally, keeping food miles down.

We've known Linscombe from when it started and it has always remained true to the values of organic farming, in terms of the quality of the produce, seasonality, and care for the land and soil.

Absolutely the BEST box I have ever had. All grown on their own farm, so fresh and with great variations in the box. The family that run this enterprise cannot be praised enough - superb!

We consider ourselves very lucky indeed to live so close to the country's only organic vegetable box scheme farmers to supply only their own produce. Our regular delivery is always a treat and often an education for us and the children as we discover what the box holds each week. We can taste the quality and goodness of the produce and when we were given some strawberries from the farm recently, it took us right back to childhood memories of when this fruit was such a special treat. Our whole family and many of our friends agree they are our own local food heroes.

Visiting Exeter farmer's market with my children once a week is a special event. The stall is enticing and the quality of the vegetables exellent. After the hungry gap the new vegetables tasted wonderful, and we could tell the amount of goodness and energy we got from them. We usually have to queue to buy our vegetables because of the popularity of the stall, but quite often conversations are struck up in the queue and there is a very friendly atmosphere. The fact that all the vegetables are home grown is of great appeal to me because they are so fresh and because of my determination to reduce the food miles of the shopping I buy. Well done Linscombe farm, and keep it up.

Linscombe Farm produce an award winning organic vegetable box scheme and can be found at several Devon Farmers' markets. They are again in the finals of the box scheme of the year awards for 2006. Vegetables are 100% home grown with nothing bought in or imported. Over 300 varieties are grown on the farm each year including a mixture of modern and heritage varieties. The quality of the produce is excellent as I'm sure the 100 plus box scheme customers and countless market customers would vouch for. Helen Case and Phil Thomas are very ecologically and ethically minded growers both with academic backgrounds in sustainable ecology. Their approach means that recycling natural wastes, protecting wildlife habitats and the environment and contributing to the local economy are all high priorities in their business. review this place now
