Description
Contemporary, spacious and light, Allium is a serene setting in which to enjoy Modern British cuisine. Involved in every step of creating the dishes served at Allium is Chef James Graham, who personally selects all the fine ingredients that go into the seasonal menus, even shooting the venison himself. Everything from the Scrubditch Farm Suckling Pig offered as a main course to the freshly-baked Cotswold Crunch Bread and Sourdough served to compliment the meal are locally sourced, supporting local producers and suppliers. In 2008, Allium opened their own deli selling their own produce and other local specialities. They have also restricted all their produce sources to within 20 miles of the establishment.

James' commitment to fresh local fare is a great take on fine dining. The cheese board is not to be missed. The menu changes daily so you must look in to find something special each and every day. What is sad is that the recent rains have flooded the area and my reports are that the place has sustained damage. Join me in wishing them luck in their recovery.

i don't often eat out in restaurants and when i chose to visit allium i was delightfully surprised by the quality of the food and the effort that was put into the preparation. i have to say that it was the exquisite desert that topped off an excellent meal. hats off to the pastry chef, it was by far one of the best souffles i have ever had!! it was a thoroughly enjoyable meal and the ambience of the restaurant as a whole was wonderful. great hosts, great chefs, great food and once of the best restaurant experiences i have had in a long time.

My husband and I took my parents to the Cotswolds last weekend to celebrate their 60th birthdays and visited Allium for a celebratory meal. It certainly did not disappoint! When I phoned to book a table I was asked if anyone had any food allergies which they should be aware of - not something I've been asked before and I was extremely impressed. On arrival we were greeted by an extremely friendly Erica, who was obviously very proud of her and her husband's restaurant. She had an extremely impressive knowledge of the menu - we were told all about the suppliers (all local and listed in the menu) from their location, to how the livestock had been reared, to how long the meat had hung for. I understand that James (the owner and chef) even hunts for some of the game himself - you can't get much more local than that! Our cab driver had warned that they are sometimes a little bit slow on service - had he ever eaten at Allium himself he would realise the reason for that is the attention to detail and the added extras - appetisers and conversation - which just add to the evening. The food and service were fantastic. We finished off our evening with the cheeseboard - not because we were hungry, but because we couldn't resist the vast array of local cheese on offer! Again, Erica was able to provide a little piece of history about each one and her passion for the food was obvious. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Cotswolds - as a family we have enjoyed many meals at wonderful restaurants but this was certainly up at the top of the list! Erica and James deserve every success in the future.

This could hardly be classed as a 'Local' review, coming as it does from New Zealand but when we emmigrated a few months ago, Allium was the restaurant of choice for our farewell dinner(s!). I have followed James and Erica's career for some time and was delighted when they opened a restaurant close enough for us to use on a (very) regular basis. Their commitment to local and artisan produce is obvious from the comments of their suppliers and a look at the menus, which unfailingly recognise the contribution which such producers make to the superb end product. But Allium's commitment to the local community goes further than a dish of locally produced hoggit, guinea fowl or pork belly, or an amazing cheese board. The work that James and Erica do with the local schools and in the community as a whole is truly special - especially as they work 'restaurant hours'! All our friends who travel to the UK on their 'Big OE' get the hard word to go and find out what fantastic service and really great British food tastes like at Allium. If the work James and Erica and the rest of the team are doing is not the very definition of Local Food Heroes, then such a thing does not exist.

Throughout the time I have worked at Allium James, Erica and Nick have been committed to using local harvest from nearby farms and producers in order give an outstanding meal in every way. As you walk into the restaurant you already get the feeling that you have walked into a cottage and that you will receive a nurtured meal, with the fireplace and comfy chairs as well as the welcoming flowers which are also grown within the town. They work closely with the near-by schools, including offering work experience for the local catering group and giving the boardering primary school cooking demonstrations. The cheeseboard accomadates the needs of our guests outstandingly with cheeses from England, Scotland,Wales and Ireland, and i can not forget the locally known cheese which always makes an apperance, Stinking Bishop. It is always a pleasure to work here as well as knowing that we are helping the local producers survive in a market which can feel like supermarkets.

As a producer of organic veal, lamb and free-range pork, it is fantastic working with James, Erica and Nick. They are all three passionate about local food, produced specifically to meet their requirements. It's great to have an outlet in this niche market, as a small producer. The food they produce in the restaurant is fantastic.

A brilliant restuarant with lovely food and atmosphere. We vistited this resturant just after a visit to Le Manoir and the food was just as good - so was the friendly service.

James, Erica and Nick at Allium have provided fantastic support to me as a local producer. They have given advice, feedback and support right from my very first batch of guinea fowl and chicken almost 2 years ago. They were my first customer, and my success in getting the quality and taste of my poultry right is thanks to their willingness to take the time to work with local suppliers. We also eat regularly at Allium, and always have a fantastic time. Thank you to all of the team, from all of the team here at Great Farm.
