Being an ex butcher myself, i suppose i am very fussy with everything from the clenliness to the quallity of the food and i must say that this butcher ticks all the boxes. Every single one of the staff are so friendly it makes you feel comfortable as soon as you enter the shop, the knowledge of the staff is impressive and the quality of the food offered is first class. Oh yes, i must not forget their sausages, these must be the best sausages i have ever tasted. Well done S J Smith Butchers!

Firstly The Staff. I've started with the staff because that is the first contact you have with the shop. Always helpful, even if your not sure what you want. I have been in the shop numerous times and say the recipe says use this cut of meat and Lee, Stuart or Ben will always say how are you cooking it and will then perhaps suggest an alternative. Sometimes I will ask for obscure things or ask for the meat to be prepared in a different way, they always help. I have taken in my own stuffing and they are more than happy to prepare the meat with it. I don't think Mr Tesco would do that! Secondly The Meat. I can only describe the meat as tasting how it used to when I was a child. I hope you know what I mean. The pork is so beautiful, with crackling that is so good we fight over it. The lamb which is my personal favourite, you have to try. The turkey at Christmas is not dry and crumbling, it is moist and is so flavoursome, it bares no resemblance to the poor things they sell in the supermarket. They also sell lots of unusual cheeses and hams which are equally delicious. The homemade sausages, pies, pasties are fantastic. Long may they continue to trade and supply people with quality produce and such a friendly service. For people who care about where their meat comes from.

As others have said. It is a local butchers staffed by enthusiastic, young staff who know their trade. As a regular customer they are aware of what you like and if things are running low they are saved for you. Great sausages and pies, all made on the premises. Lee, the boss man is always happy to try out new products and see how they seel. We have sampled wild boar and venison, pidgeon and rabbit, along wiht pheasant, duck and the usual meats. They pack their own bacon and will always cut an prepare meat to the weight that you would like. Within reason of course! The shop has survived in the area where countless others have disappeared. Highly recomended. Long may it continue to survive.

The other reviews sum up Smiths so I can't add anything further. This is the type of outlet that should be in every community and on every street. It's a real testament that this place is always busy with major retailers trying to put the experts out of business. Support these guys as much as possible!

My Husband and I have been buying meat from SJ Smith for years now and would not even entertain the idea of going to a supermarket to buy sub standered overprice meat when I can pop round the corner and know that I am going to get good quality, excellent value and great service. Even if I know I am going to be late home from work I give them a ring and they are more than happy to drop round what I need..... now that is service, you won't get that from Tescos!!!!! If you go round there before Christmas the queues say it all and if you are not too sure what size Turkey or any piece of meat yov need they always recommend and get it spot on and give advide on how to cook it. Where do I start with their pork pies, the best around by far and their meat pies are exactly that MEAT..... no grissle just pure 100% meat. Come summer we cannot get enough of their mexican saussages and burgers. Even if they don't sell what you need if you ask them they are more than happy to try and source it. They sell great sauces and chutneys too. I recommend this place to everyone I know and those that have tried it don't go back. The guys are really friendly and the moral is great. We really do feel lucky to have such a great local shop like S J Smiths so close and will be loyal customers for many years to come.

Great knowledgeable friendly butcher. They can provide whatever cut of meat you want done however you want and are always happy to advice as well. The home made pies and cooked meats are also particularly good.

FANTASTIC!!! I live just round the corner and I visit the shop once a week. They have wonderful quality meats including "clean tasting" mincemeat! They aso do great sausages. I also like the fact they sell homemade pies and pasties which my other half goes mad for. Excellent salt beef, the cheapest and best parma ham in the area and several varieties of ham, all excellent. I could go on for hours about this place! Oh, did I mention they do cheese now too? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... review this place now
