Thank you all for your messages - whilst we can't respond to each one individually, we welcome your feedback and take all comments very seriously.
Just to remind you, UKTV History has not gone off air but is now transmitting its schedule during the day between 7am and 6pm on Freeview, where you can continue to enjoy its quality output. We will seek to extend our hours at some point in the future.
Thanks again,
The UKTV Team

Hi everyone,
Just to confirm there is NO gap in UKTV History's transmission tonight. On Freeview, UKTV History will close at 6pm. On Sky and Virgin, UKTV History will continue transmitting at 6pm, with What The Ancients Did For Us. Programming will continue until 1am when the channel will close.
You'll notice that we've included a repeat block of programmes in the evening slot - basically we're repeating all our key programmes twice a day to ensure there are lots of opportunities to catch your favourite programmes.
Hope this clears up the confusion,
Thanks
The UKTV Team

Hi everyone,

RE: TELEVISION ACCESS

UKTV takes its television access obligations very seriously and takes all reasonable steps in order to comply with the Ofcom Code on Television Access Services and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (as amended by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005) ("DDA").

In the case of subtitling, it is UKTV's policy to exceed rather than comply with their current Ofcom targets. In the last Access Services figures published by Ofcom in 2006, UKTV was obliged to provide subtitles for 6.66% of programming on eight of their channels. However, UKTV were pleased to report that the percentage of subtitling broadcast in that period amounted to the following: UKTV Gold 58.5%; UKTV G2 31.5%; UKTV Food 41%; UKTV History 50%; UKTV Style 59%; UKTV Documentary 56%; UKTV Bright Ideas 39%; UKTV Drama 17%. Subtitles were also broadcast on UKTV People and UKTV Gardens despite their exemption from Ofcom regulation during this period.

We are very concerned to hear that you feel that UKTV aren't meeting your needs. As a result of your posting, we are planning to introduce an Access Services listings page on our website so that our viewers can check the availability of subtitled, audio described and visually signed programmes more easily. Please can we also reassure you that UKTV is committed to continuing to meet or exceed its statutory duties and Ofcom's annual and interim targets for the provision of television access services in the future.

Thanks
The UKTV Team

Hi Deafman,
Thank you for your post about our message boards. Unfortunately there haven't been any replies to your message about subtitling from other users, just the three posts you can see between your two posts (one of which is from me). The other two don't relate to your post - one reason this is occurring is because this message thread is a general area that people can use to post comments about UKTV. If you want to only hear from people responding to a post about subtitling, go to the main message board for UKTV (Planet UKTV) and click on 'start a new topic'. Then post a comment about subtitling and ask for people to respond. Then click the tick box so that you will get an email reminder when somebody replies to your post.
Hope this helps,
The UKTV Team

If you want to stop getting these email reminders, log in and then click on the 'stop tracking this discussion' link at the top of the page.
Thanks for your comment about subtitling - we'll be in touch with our legal team to ensure we're doing as much as we can to help.

Hi Frankiew1,
We DO read the boards, but are a bit strapped for time at the moment as we're still catching up after the break and some of the team aren't back in the office yet. But we're here still and working on some of the issues you've raised, including the print preview problem - should be back to normal soon!
Thanks
The UKTV Team

Hi there,
The email address problem is incredibly frustrating. The email address info@uktv.co.uk has been broken for a week or so - related to some changes to the BBC server that we were unaware of - and is being resolved urgently. In the meantime, you can email us on web@uktv.co.uk.
Hope this helps,
The UKTV team.

The email address problem is incredibly frustrating. The email address info@uktv.co.uk has been broken for a week or so - related to some changes to the BBC server that we were unaware of - and is being resolved urgently. We aim to have this email functional again by the end of today. Unfortunately we didn't know this problem was going to occur so couldn't publish a different email address on our site to redirect users to.
All very annoying! But should be resolved soon.
The UKTV team.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your messages about our service quality - since before Christmas we've had everyone in our transmission chain involved in a very lengthy exercise to try and identify where the issue is. We have also been viewing and monitoring all the channels and have identified that these problems seem to depend on how you are watching our channels - it seems to be related to the equipment you're using rather than a transponder problem (although we are aware it is only affecting one of our two transponders).
Happily, it seems that most viewers are not being significantly affected by this issue BUT we know that those who are affected are badly affected - this issue is now our top priority in engineering and we are working as hard as we can to resolve it as soon as possible.
Thanks again for keeping us informed - hopefully this issue won't carry on for much longer.

Hi everyone,
Today's Christmas present idea is to give a family photograph album or scrapbook. Call me a sentimental old sausage but I think this is a wonderful idea - my mum gave me a massive photograph album about 15 years ago with photos going right back to when my grandparents were babies, their wedding, my parents as children, getting engaged and married and then me and my two brothers growing up (warts and all!) It had me in tears!!! And now every Christmas she gives us all a couple more pages with pictures taken from the year just gone - it's one of my most treasured possessions and every year I can't wait to open up the pictures... And now my little boy who's just two loves it too so I'm thinking it'll be his when he's older.
My friend's mum has just done a similar thing for her, although she's added little stories and memories to go alongside the photos - another lovely idea.
So forget the Thornton's choccies this year - get personal now!
What do you think?

Hi hkmk,
It does sound like your little girl would benefit from a tighter routine during the day (if this would suit your lifestyle of course!). Gina Ford's Contented Little Baby routine might help - Gina basically suggests that all children thrive when they know what's happening when during the day and offers several schedules to follow. I found that it helped a bit with my little boy (although to be honest with you I also wanted him to be flexible so that I wasn't tied down too much by his routine). It might be worth taking a look at the book to get some advice and to pick up some tips.
There's also a bit of advice in 'Sleep Tight' in our Parenting zone under Me + My Baby.
Good luck!

Hi hkmk
This is a tricky one! We'll ask our Parenting Team for some advice - we'll send your question on to them and find out what they suggest. We'll let you know when their tips are published.
In the meantime, check out our features on looking after young children in the new Parenting Zone (under Me + My Baby).
Good luck,

Hi everyone,
So today's idea is to give a lottery ticket (or two) to your friends for Xmas. It might mean you end up giving them more than just a ticket (and if they win, they might even share their winnings with you!)
What do you reckon? A good idea or a waste of cash?
Let us know now!

Hi Purple Raver,
Keep it neutral we reckon - either magnolia, a pale yellow maybe, or a light mocha might look good.
You could then pick out some accent colours - turquoise maybe or deep pink - with a throw, cushions or a rug.
Good luck!

Hi RachW,
Well done! Getting a 9-week-old to go for 8 hours between feeds is a minor miracle so you must be doing something right! One trick you could try is called 'dream feeding' - this is where you feed her just before you go to bed at around 11pm and take care not to wake her too much. Then settle her down quickly and hopefully she'll give you your 8 hours when you really need it...
Check out the feature called 'Sleep Tight' in our Parenting zone under Me + My Baby.
Good luck!

Hi everyone,
Please don't give up entering our competitions - they're not a con and people do win really! On this site, we get between 4,000 and 8,000 entries for each competition, so the odds are good. You can see who has won what in our feature 'Lucky Strike' in the Competitions zone, which we update regularly.
Good luck!
Thanks

Hi Shadrienne
I'm going through exactly the same thing at the moment with my little two year old boy - he's generally very chirpy until we try and give him a bath as he hates having his hair washed so much. Let's ask our Parenting Team for some advice - I'll send this dilemma on to them and we'll find out what the experts suggest. We'll let you know when their tips are published.
In the meantime, check out our features on looking after young children in the new Parenting Zone (under Me + My Baby).
Good luck,

Hi Uel
I think your wife's right. Although the room might look nice with three colours when you first do it, you'll be amazed at how much clutter you soon accumulate when you have a baby so something simple might be better. Plus on top of all the baby paraphernalia, there will be mobiles, pictures, books, toys and millions of other little bits and bobs that well-meaning relatives and friends think your little one will love. And I don't know what it is with designers for children's kit, but everything is brightly coloured and screaming out for attention... so less is definitely more!!!
