Paint

Step 3: Painting

Paint rollers are the quickest method to cover most exterior surfaces, although you may need to use a brush to cover bare pebbledash.
Attach an extension handle to the roller so that you can tackle most of the work from the ground.
Start painting at the top right corner of the first wall (or the left, if you are left-handed). Work across the wall in square metre sections.

Step 4: Finishing

To avoid splatters, tape newspaper or polythene over window frames.
Use brushes to form a neat edge around frames, bargeboards (the decorative edgings on a roof) and downpipes. Make a neat job of painting around downpipes by tying a newspaper around the pipe and moving it down the pipe as you paint.
Tip: Don't leave a wall half painted or you may notice a line between the old and new paint. Paint the entire wall or stop at downpipes or windows.
