A tip on container planting when using unglazed terracotta pots coat the inside of the pot with PVA glue. This stops the water soaking into the pots rather than into the soil.

This is only worth doing if the pots are not frost hardy... and water the upva down 50/50 with water... paint on inside and out... But it does stop the air getting to the roots - so there are disadvantages...

Smile this is a good tip, but the note on watering down the PVA is valid and worth remebering. Thanks for these tips.

Isn't PVA water-based? You'd just end up with gluey compost every time you watered.
