I agree but it's a shame about the on-screen logo - "Inventing our World"

Fred said that he went to art school in the 1960s, he was an excellent draughtsman and art historian. He must have done the National Diploma in design ,a five year course, how did he end up being a steeplejack?

Calumbri- he did in one of his programs explain how he became a steeplejack, much against his mothers wishes. Sorry I can't remember the details. He was a great man, and in my heart , though he built no monumental structures, stands along side Brunel, the Darby's and the many other great engineers our country produced. His knowledge and skill knew no bounds, and the way he explained such great things so simply just adds to his persona. We shall not see his like again. Fred Dibnah R.I.P.

What an absolute shame to have lost a national treasure. Fred, you may be gone, but have left behind so much knowledge of the industrial and steam world, a world I didn't take much notice of until you educated me, in simple, understandable language. Thank-you for enlightening my life. God bless you.

My one ambition was to meet Fred. This man was the perfect example of a Northern Gentleman. The world is the poorer for Freds passing. Enjoy your rest Fred, God knows You've earned it.
