This English lavender, named after Edwardian plants-woman Gertrude Jeykll's garden at Munstead Wood, will give you aromatic overload with its dense spikes of fragrant, blue-purple summer flowers and delicately scented grey-green leaves. Plant in a sunny, well-drained site and cut back stalks after flowering to maintain shape. Perfect as a lovely low hedge as plants will have an eventual height of 45 centimetres and spread of about 60 centimetres.Available from: Crocus

And best of all, it is fairly easy going, as plants go, needing only well-drained alkaline soil and plenty of sunshine.Remember to cut back well after flowering – at least to leaf level – to maintain a compact and tidy bush.
