>Bring back Jenny Barnett & Good Food Live NOW!!!
Agreee with everything you all have to say...I just hope I get to see any new show she is in here in Australia....
why do messages keep disappearing??? I don't think they will bring back GFL but I think another channel will pick up a sister show with Jeni in it (maybe channel 5) I also think that MK won't last long 6mths tops (at least I'm hoping)
Posts disappear if they break the rules. A lot of new members here don't seem to have read the rules very well.
On a personal note I think it is very unlikely Jeni Barnett will get another job as a presenter.
She is now gone, so is Good Food Live, which again in my opinion and I know quite a few others, especially the chefs. Was much better when she wasn't presenting, when it came down to the subject of food and how to cook it.
I do so hope I don't get the same response as the previous poster but I had heard the end was nigh 18 months ago and that it was only contractual details had prevented it before.
At least you weren't scathing of Jeni whom we all love and admire!!!
Not in so many words, the gentle line I took should really have told you that I do agree with Martino2's words. Jeni hadn't done herself or GFL any favours for a while. It is a shame she didn't take the hint and leave so the show could continue without her. Her ego got the better her so she lost her job and took the whole show down with her in the end.
Peggy - are you and Martino working for the company? Seems strange you both posted for the first time on the same day!!! Stop trying to wind up genuine foody people and Jeni lovers by your inane remarks.
That is very rude Pocket Battleship. I do have connections with Prospect. I have no intention of winding anyone up. Genuine food or Jeni lovers, a very loose link indeed. My remarks are not inane, they are based on realistic history.
I've read on a lot of ocasions that some of the higher up chefs refused to work with Jeni Barnett. She was there to present they they and their food were the stars. She didn't see it that way.
There was no show without Jeni. We saw what happened when she took breaks - what resulted was lame, flat, tedious - no better than Market Kitchen! As for so-called higher up chefs refusing to work with her - well if their precious little egos couldn't take the robust company of a vivacious and witty presenter, they had no business taking up air time in the first place. That notion suggests that cookery programmes should be temples for the adoration of self-appointed gastronomic demi deities - and nothing is more boring than self indulgent self promotion by people without the ability to relate to other people. Jeni supplied that relationship with the viewer which made the foodie side of the programmes palatable.
I'm not normally one to get into such a heated debate but to all those who don't like Jeni and/or GFL do not enter the section titled BRING BACK JENI, whether we (Jeni Fans) are right or wrong as I'm sure not many of us know her personally but WE LIKE HER so stop bullying everyone who wishes to share their thoughts on jeni and her show, and might I just add less than 12mths ago I was happy to cook things straight out of a jar never daring anything new and more to the point wasn't bothered about anything new if i wanted something different I'd go to a restraurant or a pub but on one fateful day I switched channels (not intentionally) and there was a bubbly woman who had so much enthusiam that it was contagious and much to all of my family around me I started cooking food from scratch we are currently building our own Veggy patch and i've been growing herbs for 9 months and i swear it is all down to jeni and GFL - I completely agree with IngaH I couldn't watch if another presenter was on but Jeni Changed mine and my families way of life, she came from a humble back ground and spoke my language so sorry to all you anti Jeni's out there but I WANT JENI BACK along with a whole lot of other people, So get of our backs and let us chat in peace......
I dont know who the higher up chefs are, I saw Alex McKay get quite angry with Jeni one day, and Sophie Grigson often did, Gino did, Paul Hollywood I think was always in fun. Tony Tobin told her to shut up a few times so did Brian Turner. Alistair Little gave up one day as he couldnt get a word in and you could always see Aldo Zilli was frustrated. Silvana Franco was very sweet about not being allowed to talk, Sylvana Rowe used to get upset. Looking back now I can see how many of them were tolorating Jeni rather than working with her.
Inga H - very well said, there definitely was no show without Jeni, poor diddums chefs couldn't take to being joshed and made fun of? It's them who should have checked the size of their egos, not the presenter. I can think of many who seemed to get on fine with her, apart from Alan Coxon that is!
As I log in this morning, it seems an entire thread about the disappearance of GFL has itself disappeared! I hope this is just an early morning (well, early for me, and pre my first caffeine shot too - perhaps I just can't see it!) aberration and not an officially executed disappearance. The thread had got a little lively. UK tv in general (I include the BBC) and UKTV Food in particular may find "liveliness" a bit too much too handle and take them off air.
Meanwhile, I second the sentiments of the above. Bring back Jeni!
Hi Freddyg
Another whole thread disappeared yesterday. I had contributed to this thread in a polite way, regarding what I considered to be personal insults used agin another poster on the thread. I was watching over the morning. At first, some words ( the words I felt were below the belt) were removed from the persons post, which took the main meaning out of my own post. Then another post was removed directly after my post, leaving my two posts following each other!
In my opinion, if posts are removed because they break the rules, then this should be indicated in the space left, as it can throw other posts out of context.
The main thrust of my post was to agree to differ, without getting personal.
It seems we have all replied in a polite way but others beg to differ.
Seems they complain about the treatment they receive but in return treat us the same way they complain about....cant see why we all cant be friendly and accept difference of opinion! I have not seen one person who doesnt like MK be rude to someone who does...
Because you don't look do you. but you swear in most of your posts anyway so may not know what is rude. nettiquette (I read that a couple of days ago) is needed.
NW I want to apologise for that post, truthfully it made me angry on first reading. I walked away and gave thought to what I had written and wanted to right it.
I just wish to add my bit. Please bring back Jenny an Good Food Live.
LarissaB - Sylvana Rowe couldn't get a word in? Good heavens, that's impossible to believe. Sylvana can't shut up! It makes sense she might be "annoyed"....but she kept coming back, didn't she?
PennyM's inane "insider" comments aside - since I know nothing of that - in reality Jeni did a superb job of keeping the Chef's in-line, on-topic and on-schedule.
Indeed, this is where MK fails miserably...everything always runs overtime and out of time, lots of thing and no one leads the chefs, causing long periods of boredom to ensue. You can't keep your attention focussed on it.
Jeni tried to keep it INTERESTING and ENTERTAINING for the AUDIENCE and succeeded. That was the whole point. The chef's supposed "hurt" feelings aren't very relevant, and I don't believe it anyway.
Truly, the GFL chef's themselves were quite dreary and boring as has been said above, as TV is not their prime talent. When Jeni wasn't on, the show was absolutely lifeless. And for Jeni's light hearted jocular banter, the poor diddums chefs couldn't take to being? Good greif, it's them who should have checked the size of their egos, not the presenter.
I actually think the chef's could care less, they knew the game.
Meanwhile, I third the sentiments of the above. Bring back Jeni!
Just adding my support to the thread, I too had to laugh about the comment about Sylvana talk about hind legs and donkeys!!
keep an eye on Jeni's blog as I have been and keep everything crossed, I have not watched soup kitchen for 2 weeks now as its awful, stilted tv and have been finding other stuff to do in my lunch hour, I enjoyed Ina Garten when she was on but as for AWT sorry but can't abide that show either so have given up on UKTVfood all together at the moment which is a shame as it was my most watched channel, lets just hope another channel can see the loyal following that Jeni has and that they will put aside there pride and snap her up, if its terrestrial tv I can then cancel my subscription to NTL as the only channel I got it for has now stuck the proverbial fingers up at me and my likes and that of the majority on here.
What can we do to get GFL and Jeni back on the air on any channel. I could care less about MK as I don't watch it. In fact I don't watch the channel much at all.
I've tried and tried to find good bits about MK but the show is just dreadful....there must be some way to put a light, educational, entertaining food program back in the air somehow!!
Go to Bright Ideas, the repeats of the reapeats of the repeats. See jenni there. voila
Hey guys
Wish we had Bright Ideas here I'd love to watch repeats of repeats and reruns of the same repeats of GFL...
I tried MK the other day after not watching it for some weeks, still the same boring format...it seems very stale somehow.
I too wish somehow Jeni would come back GFL was so entertaining and fast moving...does anyone remember the Masterchef goes large when the contestants had to do a bit on GFL....? Remember the bloke in the control room asking Jeni to ask certain things to those contentants to keep the show MOVING....
We dont have the James Martin shows or Saturday kitchen, wish we did....our Lifestyle Food channel is quite boring at the moment... Miss Reza too anyone like him? I made a few of his curries that were supurb!
Should we also start a favourite GFL recipe thread...maybe there are some we have that others may have missed etc...
Queens holiday weekend here and about to go out to buy steaks marinade and do a basic potatoe bake anyone got some different ideas for that? I usually do it with potato (of course
) cream nutmeg cheese and garlic...anyone got a different way they do it?
Cheers all might start that thread
