Hi Ken. I totally agree with you that there are other channels to watch and I have always agreed that if people aren't happy with something then they shouldn't watch it. I don't watch MK because it winds me up. But the point is UKTVFOOD used to be the best cookery channel to watch because of Jenny and CO. and lots of people including myself miss it, and cannot understand why it was axed. Especially if the powers that be thought that MK would better it.

Mk is on at 7pm now, I do learn a lot from this programme, I must admit. More than I did from GFL. It lacks entertainment, but certainly makes up for it, from the knowledge it gives you, on so many different ingredients one can find! Loads of tips, come on, everyone stop crying over spilled milk. Jenni was good, maybe she could present MK! Smile

As previously mentioned the viewers of UKTVFood are in the main competent cooks, or at least foodies. (My husband cannot stand the channel because it has too much cooking on it! Enough said.) Only people who are total foodies watch, so why Oh why are we subjected to the amateur chefs as appear on Market Kitchen? I think this programme insults UKTVFood viewers by assuming that they need Mrs Ramsey to show them how to cook inferior recipes! If you have really fallen out with Jenny (after all she was dumped after holding the channel together for years) try to get a presenter who, if not a superb chef themselves leaves it to the professionals to do the cooking!
Tanya would be far better off at home being the perfect mother she trys to portrait, after all their Dad is never there! They can always see tone of their parents on the telly daily though! Angry Angry Angry
Please UKTVFood listen to your viewers, I hardly tune in now as it is all repeats or this awful programme, and i am a massive foodie!

A very interesting suggestion cornetto.

I would love to see the reaction of the viewers if Jeni and Ed Baines took over the presentation of MK - my guess is that there would be very little to criticise.

But do the 'powers that be' have enough initiative to take such a route?

Too true gastrosurf, initiative and courage is lacking in a lot, in everyday life too. Blurgh

Hello my fellow gastronomes,

Save your breath, your time and your hopes for a better, more improved programme than MK. Nobody is listening to your gripes. Why should they?
I recently posted the name of the MK producer as published in Sainsburys Magazine. See Dec edition. It appears that such information is not to be shared and the post has never appeared, it has been deleted, it no longer exists etc. Does sensorship not demonstrate that someone is reading the posts and that it's all a one way street. This is my last post.

Missing you already Blurgh
I am not an apologist for M/K but posts like this are just beyond what this forum is for. Of COURSE someone reads the posts and some are deleted, mine included, which are thought of as not suitable. So YOU had the name of the producer, so what? Do you want vigilantes outside their house, outside their office? Scary post, no wonder it was deleted.
Have your say, they DO know what you think. They may not agree with YOU, we can't all agree on the forum so it's not sinister.
We have had GFL chefs on here so EVERYONE knows what we think, NOBODY has xxxxged Tana off more than me, everyone knows what we feel and sometimes it's best to let go, if we all turned off the programme would die. We won't so IT won't. Some of us seem to have been won over to the dark side Develish

No suggestion could save Market Ktitchen, it's just too dire a programme.

Essentially Market Kitchen has to be the WORST programme developed over the past few years. Why would they ever have considered cancelling GFL???

GFL was simply BRILLIANT.

Worse, GFL was the ONLY live, daily cooking show produced ANYWHERE on the planet.

UKTVFood: A complete stuff-up.

I think what we all have to try and seperate out are

a) the programs
b) the presenters

GFL was a really good program, however it became more of an entertainment program rather than a cookery program, mainly because of the presenter who knew little about food apart from eating it, and made it her own entertainment show detracting from the point of the show, which was food and cooking.

Market Kitchen is a much better cookery program, with good presenters who also know a lot about food, the entertainment level has declined (thank goodness) and the focus is on the produce, the cooking and the finished dish.

The point being, if you want to watch Jeni Barnett, I'm sure you will find her somewhere.

However, if you want to watch a good food program then Market Kitchen fulfills it's role completely. The producers have listened to the constructive criticism (rather than the whingeing) changes have been made, and the program is going from strength to strength.

Rosti, where is Jeni on TV??? I've been looking and looking. If you know please tell us. I thought GFL was absolutely the BEST cooking programme EVER!! If they are showing it somewhere else, I'd love to know.

Market Kitchen sadly lacks so much it's not even worth discussing. It's totally flat.

I don't think she is actually on the TV at the moment, I know she is doing a radio show on LBC? and she does various voice overs - Food Polka? but I haven't watched it and it seems to have been panned.

She has her own blog, [link] which is probably the best way to know what she is and will be doing.

I don't think they are showing GFL anywhere else either, which is a shame because it WAS a good show. Hopefully repeats will be shown somewhere, sometime.

Market Kitchen is a much better program though, more foodie, more informative, and much better presented. Love it!!! Smile

Hope this helps Wink

Rosti, what is an LBC? I'd love to see her...is this the radio station referred to many months ago where she was doing a cooking chat show of some sort?

The Food Polka show never made it to Australia...although I hear we didn't miss much with THAT one! Smile

Arvo, Oysterman.
In case Rostie is a bit late getting online.
LBC is a London based, local Radio Station.
Broadcasts to London area and a few miles beyond. You may be able to get it via Internet but not too sure.

Oyster, if you Google LBC they mention being able to follow/recieve online. Worth a try to see if you can get it live.

It's the SHOW'S recipes that are horrid. As others have mentioned, the selection of recipes on Market Kitchen is just so uninspiring. Even some that may be worth trying are presented in such a way that all the interest and excitement is simply drained away.

I think the food being cooked has actually improved immensely breadman.

They've done Mexican and Ethiopian. They even had Mario Batali on recently. A complete breath of fresh air. And no more foie gras, squirrels or rattlesnakes, etc. The food [IMHO] has been much more down-to-earth, accessible and practical recently.

And now that I've learned Tana is leaving, it really is looking up!

If they could just lift the "interest factor" somehow, the show would be very good.

Well with Tana now gone I think there is real hope for this TV show. I would always switch it off when I saw that she was on for the week. Awful.

It has certainly been a slow and painful process but there finally does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel. Smile

Odd Gordon never put her on The F word, his mother's been on three times that I can recall.

Well, thankfully she is now gone permanently. It took long enough!

Why didn't Gordon ever give her air time on F word? I missed the answer to that, it wa deleted before I read it....

I read the posts from way back in spring of 2007 and she was reviled even back then by almost all posters.....when - oh when - will they give us some decent programming? It is so dire...

At least we can enjoy a minor improvement!
