I need help!!!!!!!!!!

I am baking a cake for my daughters 3rd birthday on Friday and I went to get the ingredients today and cannot find the biscuits I need. The cake is a cottage and uses biscuits for the roof and the windows. They have used pink rectangular iced biscuits for the roof and yellow ones for the windows.

They are just plain biscuits with icing on top (like the iced rings but rectangular). The book says all ingredients available on the supermarket run and I have looked in Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury.

At this rate I will be buying plain biscuits and trying to ice them myself. Surely these biscuits must exist somewhere. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Sarah - I know the ones you mean. Have you tried looking in the "special" section of each of the supermarkets? I'' go and have a quick surf on the net to you as I have a few minutes to spare.

Watch this space.

I'm sorry Sarah - I've failed you miserably! The closest I can find is the Fox's iced ring biscuits. Have you tried the baker's counter in your supermarket? Might be worth asking for their help - they're usually pleased to help. They might be able to make some up for you?

Good luck in your searches.

BTW - Hope your daughter's birthday goes well.

Thanks MrsWW. I've surfed the net too and had no luck. I may ask at the bakery counter but not sure I'll have much luck.

Thanks for your help

I remember these type of biscuits as well, but haven't seen them in years. Like Mrs W I've had a look on the net for you (even going to anicecupofteaandasitdown and they aren't listed there. Can you use anything else. As a kid my mom used to make me a hansel and grettle type of cake and used chocolate fingers for the roof. The only other suggestion I can make is that you either use coloured icing roll for the windows or as you suggest make some pink/yellow icing and simply decorate some plain biscuits

You might still be able to find cafe noir biscuits (still get these sometimes at large supermarkets) - these are pale brown hard iced rectangular biscuits. Maybe for roof? Think same company as make the packs mixed pink and yellow ones you are talking about - remember that mixed pack also had pink/yellow stripe ones:

Thanks all. Couldn't find the pink and yellow ones anywhere, obviously McVities don't make them anymore. I found the cafe noir ones though and will use those for the roof. I hope they look OK as the cake is covered in pale pink butter icing and was supposed to be all pink and yellow!

Not sure what to do about the windows. I could just draw them with writing icing or use the cafe noir biscuits with lines drawn on for panes. I will have to experiment.

Thanks for all you suggestions.

Sarah - how about painting/writing shutters instead of windows? Then at least you could use a white icing pen and just draw rectangles with horizontal lines? Just a thought.

Good luck and hope the party goes well.

Thanks monkey, the party went very well.

Iced gems aren't the right biscuit. Iced gems are tint little round biscuits with icing on top, the ones I needed were large rectangular biscuits with smooth icing on top. I have founf they longer make them.

I used chocolate buttons as the roof and used cafe noir iced biscuits for the door and windows. It looked fine in the end.

Thanks for the reply
