So well said, gastrosurf. There seems to be three major problems with UKTVFood presently:

1. They are not showing Great Food Live
2. The repeats that are airing have been overexposed to loyal viewers
3. Market Kitchen hasn't been improved

Quite simple isn't it?

I agree, it's drivel. Sometimes the presenters just engage their mouths before they even think.

That's what irks me so much, gastrosurf. I pay good [?] money to watch the programmes and I'm expressing my opinion about the simply awful Market Kitchen, cringeworthy Rhodes Across India and the interminable string of seven repeats being shown. I subscribed because of UKTVFood, Great Food live actually, and the drivel they're giving us now is simply appalling.

What has happened to UKTVFood?!?! Clearly something changed there about 12 months ago and it's been sliding downhill ever since.

That's tragic if Tana was simply selected for her looks winkernet. But what else could it be?

I actually think she was selected because of who she is, and not her "visuals". She actually looks uncomfortable in reality.

This show is simply an appallingly low quality TV production.

Thank you Arthur for bringing up that topic!! Since Gordon is now spending all his time in the US and Tana is on that dreadful Market Kitchen thing, how are the kids fareing? They must never see them. Tana should have them come to the MK cafe during filming Big Grin

Yes, Mr Martin is now in the "oversposed" category I'm afraid. Why is the media insisting on this celebrity thing? Very tiring for what should be a serious food channel.

I'm afraid you've figured it out cheff. How transparent they are. Sickening really. The cancellation of GFL to be replaced with Market Kitchen made it so obvious.

Everything we see now, from politicians, to music "artists", to food programmes are just artificially manufactured by the media. Talent is no longer required.

Your predictions, by the way, are spot-on.

Finally someone has said it, Billy2Blues...I can't understand a word she says. Maybe it is her rapid machine-gun speaking but I just tune out at times because I can't decipher her comments.

I don't understand why can't they just shove this programme into the dust bin? What kind of contract must they have signed?

I think you're right hobmaster about the smugness. I oozes from Fort and Tebbutt, but not TPB. Tana just seems "out of it" to me, she always has such a vacant look about her?

"One dimensional" is a good adjective.

Hs anyone even bothered to watch these "best of" MK assemblages??? Absolutely awful.

The show has always been tripe, but the selection of highlights has truly been the "worst of the worst"

This whole programme has truly been unbelievable. Can they please axe it?

I absolutely LOVE the Barefoot Contessa programmes. They are so well done, the recipes are perfect, the food is so appealing and she is so warm and enjoyable. She makes evrything seem effortless. Every recipe I have tied has worked!!

A great, great show.

Why are British food programmes so bad lately??? What is happening???

As with I-love-cakes, I prefer the GFL series so much more than this awful Market Kitchen crap.

Arthur, I wouldn't be so concerned! We all have made posts that were removed. But we never understand why...but this is natural. We always think our posts are "proper" but sometimes they aren't.

Just keep posting. If you make your point lucidly and with sincerity without offending others I'm sure it will "stick"!!

Just look at the 1000's of postings about the awful Market Kitchen production....this is their own programme yet they allow the public to voice their displeasure with what turns out to be an awful programme.

I think the board is handled very well, in a very even manner.

I'm sure the change of time is a sign of problems. Why else would they do it? They can't be happy with the ratings they're getting lately, it seems to have slipped even further.

And hasn't the show this week hit rock-bottom? Imagine a dish made with corn fungus???? How accessible is THAT!?

I too wish we could just get rid of this Market Kitchen programme. It's terrible.

No need for GFL I suppose, even though it was 1000% better.

I think that's the point. The quality of food programming on UKTVFood has just gone into the toilet over the past year.

I think you've been duped by the media machinery Olive...her head may well be "on right", don't know about that. I'm a "young mum" and she doesn't realate at ALL to me!! She's too aloof. And it's clear she hates being on the show, just look at her facial expressions.

But to be clear, her presence on the show is literally killing Market Kitchen. If she were to leave the show [and TV in general], I think a majority of the complaints about this show would disappear.

This whole thread is baffling, something must have been deleted??? It doesn't seem to flow [like most of the threads recently]

Anyway - - - - now that I've given this further thought, personally I can see the logic of this - if nothing else than to reduce the amount of cheating on what you get from our esteemed proprietors.

I love the little line on the glasses that tells us what we got for our quid!

If I want more I'll just order another glass!! Actually that's probably a foregone conclusion Big Grin Big Grin

Truer words were never spoken Karen, UKTVFood turned into one of the most boring channels with the cancellation of Great Food Live. I hardly ever watch it anymore. I just use this website now to search for recipes from GFL.

I agree with many of your points Lilly Lee but this show is just so uninteresting - and I love cooking shows. I assume they'll keep tweaking and tweaking it until it's ultimately just cancelled.

This is silly.

It seems to be more a list of iconic TV food personalities rather than chefs. Is that all that's important anymore? Celebrity? Sickening.

Nigella isn't even a chef, so how can she be an iconic one?

How about those unsung chefs with two or three stars that work day in and day out but aren't on TV? I bet they are better chefs in many ways - albeit not iconic.
