My guess is that Rhode's TV career is pretty much finished - at least for now. He has alienated so many viewers with his attitude and ego with the past few series, China will hardly save his reputation no matter how he comes off. Anyway, we need a break from him for a while.

Yes, Jeni was certinaly a master at keeping things going wasn't she? I remember she had Reza Mohammed
on the show and he was literally all over the place, yakkety yakkety and she finally exclaimed "LESS TALKING, MORE COOKING!"
It was hilarious
I really miss GFL.

Hobmaster I'm with you on this one. I always loved Sylvana. I remember her being on some show where an amateur takes over a real restaurant kitchen and tries to make a successful night out of it. sorry, don't recall the anme, but Sylvana made a mess out of it "I remember her saying "my bloody cup broke" beacuse she was using a tea cup to pound out meat
Great laughs.
She's so full of life and is very entertaining. She's a welcome addition to MK in my view. I recall also the great fun interaction with Jeni on GFL. They would try to out-interrupt one another. It always had me in stitches!!
Hope she can do the same for MK, it NEEDS it!!

Wow, I enjoy Rosemary Shrager and her cooking style but you do seem to be suffering from an overdose there! That's a lot of any host, much less our dear Rosemary.
Thanks to rosti for that Rosemary story, very funny. I can just visualise a hoxxxx Rosemary but it's hard to imagine a Rosemary without ANY voice

It's the SHOW'S recipes that are horrid. As others have mentioned, the selection of recipes on Market Kitchen is just so uninspiring. Even some that may be worth trying are presented in such a way that all the interest and excitement is simply drained away.

I admit I was one who complained about repeats a few months back and they still irritate at times. But recently when Rick Stein's Food Heroes was repeated I was glued to the TV. What a revelation it was, frankly, at the quality of this programme to what they are now showing. It shocked me at how much food TV has gone downhill on UKTVFood of late. Stein epitomises the best. He's humble, passionate, learned and a great ambassador for England. Now we have Tana, TPB, Tebbutt, Rhodes, et al???
What is going on at UKTVFood?

I haven't noticed any changes of significance whatsoever, what have you seen The fat one? I will honestly admit I can only watch maybe five to ten minutes of any one epicode but it all seems so mcuh as it always was...dry and pretentious.
At least they've stopped cooking with all those weird and somewhat distasteful ingredients. That's a BIG plus for me.
Superscillious Matt will not change. He's just a "lad". Very unappealling for that role.

gastro, from reading the threads here I would conclude exactly the same.
It would appear (in general) that those that don't like Market Kitchen post those sentiments, but those that do like Market Kitchen make posts criticising the other posters.
To me, I'd rather read criticisms of programmes, presenters and recipes than read criticisms of other posters.
And most of the criticisms I read here on Food Chat DO seem to be about some of the recent ingredients being used. It's true most have been on Market Kitchen as this is the only programme airing new episodes that I am aware of, but it seems to be genuinely food related to me. Perhaps the posting should have been on "ingredients"?

Hob, I don't think there really is a "new" Paris Hilton cooking programme...it was mentioned in jest as an idea that would possibly be better than the current form of Market Kitchen.

It does strike me also as some sort of rights issue and someone else has reported that repeats are airing in Australia and New Zealand. The idea of a highlights programme would be good.
And I agree totally about blanket repeats or even worse IMHO is one of those weekend marathons where they broadcast back-to-back episodes ad infinitum.
I wonder why UKTVFood just doesn't post and answer, regardless of why they aren't showing them?

Are you just trying to make us jealous??
Stop rubbing it in! It's hard enough suffering through our programming here.
And don't mention that your tax office hasn't released everyone's personal details down there

I think on any board you will find comments that are fatuous and imbecilic, this board included. And certainly a comment like "because we are British" would rank in there if that was an answer to why there were criticisms of MK.
But I think many, if not most, of the posts here critiquing MK have been well thought through and posted in all sincerity.
I am also sure that many do like MK, but I think it IS telling that there are so many posts expressing a general dissatisfaction with the overall quality of the production, albeit for 100s of different reasons.

Absolutely winkernet!! That's not the only example of MT showing his ignorance of food. Odd, isn't it?? Maybe his gastro-pub only serves burgers with a side of chervil root?
The misinformation and general ignorance on Market Kitchen is shocking.
MT was only picked for his looks, he has little else to offer this programme.
"Fresh pheasant". What an oxymoron. Or is it just moron?

It is a joke, isn't it Chris. What they have done to food programming in Britain in the last 12 months is a crime.
The quality of new food programmes has deteriorated to just a degenerating line up of "celebrity" crap. The use of people without any television talent such as TPB and Tana Ramsey and the peacock-like display of chefs such as Gary Rhodes has turned off veiwers in the thousands.
The tendency to select people simply and solely because of their name rather than their skillset has become overwhelming and we're all the poorer for it.
I just can't wait for the upcoming series "Paris Hilton's Kitchen"

I think you're right ReedW, I used to watch UKTVFood constantly but now when I turn it on it always *seems* to be a programme I have seen already ad infinitum, so I switch away.
So they've "lost" me in a way, but not really.
I would think they could give the current crop of programmes a "rest" for a couple/few years and just air other "repeats" that haven't been shown for a while and they would seem fresh to us viewers?
I think that is perhaps the cause for the boredom and the loss of viewers.

Very well put, posset.
I was rather enjoying the humour of this thread. It gave me quite a chuckle, like the TV show "Posh Nosh"!
I guess some people just "humour challenged"

Now, hold on just one second! UKTVFood may actually NOT be sinking fast..it may be very slow.
I've just read a terrific post from billy2blues on another thread, although I can't seem to find it now, where he compares UKTVFood with the MARY CELESTE
So, UKTVFood *is* sighted - occassionally in the fog - but no one is on board!!
The "Mary Celeste Channel"

I'd have to agree with you insider, there's doesn't seem to be any lights on at UKTVFood. Just the same old repeats over and over again. It's mindnumbing.
They're in a rut, that's for sure.

I watch this show most every night - or at least bits. Certainly MK is nothing brilliant and it has lots of faults but I would rate the recently aired Rhodes Across India as the absolutely worst cooking program ever simply due to his arrogant disregard for the other people on his show.

What great fun watching GFL was! I especially liked Jeni's "corral" of characters, including Paul Hollywood.
Sure wish we could get GFL back on the air, and soon.
Great link, posset!!

Well Arthur, that is certainly an understatement. That's why it's considered Britain's number 1 insomnia cure.

Paul, long time no hear! I used to love to watch you on Great Food Live. To your question, I think the "debate" has long been settled.
Hordes miss Jeni and Great Food Live and the general consensus is that Market Kitchen has not lived up to its potential. A shame really as it has really kind of ruined the whole food culture/envrionment that GFL and UKTVFood had nurtured. It's essentially now all gone.
There is very little "support" for the new programme except perhaps from the prior poster who has posted on every thread on this website!
Cheers and great to hear from you.
