Rosti, so many posts here! YOU are tired of this? Then why enter this board?
You are the #3 poster on this website so you would know more than anyone else that the vast, VAST number of threads on this board have nothing to do with MK, GFL or Jenny Barnett.
Why do the 5 or 6 very active threads bother you so much? Just because they generally don't share your opinion is no reason to get so worked up.
Now for the point I originally wanted to make: all the posters that do NOT like MK generally give reasons, critique and suggestions for improvement. But those that disagree with these posters never really explain why they disagree, they only say they like MK - which of course is absolutely fine.
Really, there are a LOT of people that like MK. The show gets an average of 15-19,000 viewers for EACH Episode. And one episode each week normally breaks through 40,000. That's nothing to sniff at!
But I also think it is reasonable to allow people who do not like MK to have their say and explain why. After all, that's the title of this thread.
And, MrktGuru, the changes you describe look like the old Good Food Live program to me.
from an expert?
And what exactly is wrong with *new* posters having their say? Nothing I would submit. The MK debacle is what has activated them. Note how rosti welcomes and invites the pro-MK posters yet now it is suggested by Natural Woman that anti-MK posters are somehow less than welcome.
I sense a touch of hypocrisy here. I humbly suggest the board is not the sole domain of oldie posters - it's for everyone regardless of their tastes and opinion.

I have to agree with Nick27 on this one, if GFL was truly in need of a "replacement" than surely Market Kitchen is a total disaster. But I would suggest that GFL had hardly run its coxxxx. The ratings were fine, the viewership EXTREMELY loyal and it acted as a superb flagship for the whole channel.
Regardless, MK could certainly rank as truly one of the worst cookery programs ever.

Well this week is certainly an eye opener for me.
I usually catch the first five or ten minutes a couple times a week and I must admit having momma cherry on has put a spotlight on how absolutely dreadful this program is!!
The whole program shrinks into insignificance behind someone with the strength of personality of this chef. I bet they don't ask her back!! It's embarrasing to see how bad the rest of the show really is.
Tana looks soooooo uncomfortable. She doesn't seem to know where to put her body parts somehow.
The presenters look worse than ever now.
PS has anyone tried any of these soul recipes? Opinion?

Here is the suggestion put forth elsewhere:
1. leave MK as it is in its current timeslot (or whatever, doesn't matter)
2. move Gary Rhodes Cookery Year from its current timeslot
3. place GFL repeats on in place of Gary Rhodes at dinnertime
This would seem to satisfy the bulk of all posters on all these threads, wouldn't it? Or am I missing something here?
I really don't know what UKTVFood's problem is - but they seem absolutely determined to wreck the whole channel.

Karen, if you go to the Market Kitchen board you can share your thoughts about MK there on the many threads that discuss the various weaknesses of that absolutely horrific production.
There you can see the various elements of the concept that so many people dislike plus a lot of great ideas on how to improve the programme, how to improve the overall line up of all the programmes on UKTVFood as well as other ideas and desires of the channel's loyal viewers.

Rick 13 I really like Simon Rimmer. He was often on GFL with Jeni and had great recipes.
I now like him on his "country market" show, he is a good presenter and seems very comfortable in front of a camera.
As he was one of the original hosts planned for MK it makes you wonder what the show would have been like with him. It may well have been a better programme considering the horrific commentary about the current lot.

BBQ you just need to look at the lighter side, that's all!!
You know all the TV programmes that are labelled "the best of", well just imagine one put together called "the worst of" and you have a close approximation of Market Kitchen.
Honestly, they have combined the worst of all elements of a television show, from presenters, to scripting, to camera work, to the set and even many of the "tutorials" and then put them together into a single production.
It's truly an accomplishment!

Bev, Barefoot Contessa is a great alternative to the now-missing GFL. It has a lot of the warmth of GFL but sdaly not the same humour, irreverance and spontaneity a live program exudes.
But her recipes are absoultely spot-on to-die-for. Mmmmmmm sugar and butter, meat and potatoes. How can you go wrong?!
There are many, many other North American shows that I hope UKTVFood can bring over.

Prodigal, your post wasn't deleted - it just "goes away" for 24 hours in the infinite wisdom of whomever design this crazy thing. The fact that a post can appear for an entire day, the disappear for another whole day and then miraculaously reappear in frustrating and very confusing.
It also causes each thread to surge on one topic or another on alternating days, making the logical flow of the thread almost incomprehensible.
Oh well, they are wiser than we!!

Speaking of team-ups, who has seen Tana and MFort together?! Disastrous.
If anything, it just demonstrates that Tana needs to move on. She just doesn't seem comfortable at all. Her body posture is painful, she speaks meekly if at all and seems at a loss what to say sometimes. When she does speak it often is an inane comment just echoing what someone else just said.
This week's chef is all but mute. Why is that?? I'm starting to feel sorry for Mr Fort, he has to conduct the entire programme.
So, it appears there were lots of "changes" to the shows format and presenters from commissioning time to the time it first appeared on the air. Then, why oh why have they not made further changes or improvements since then???
Dreadful, dreadful. How hilarious is the quote from the news release??
"Dynamic, entertaining and interactive, Market Kitchen will present viewers with expert and entertaining new takes on how and where to find, enjoy and cook the very best seasonal food. Presenters Clarissa, Simon, Tana and Tom will have access to Britain's best local suppliers and their seasonal produce. "
Dynamic??? entertaining??? interactive??? Good grief.

Has anyone been watching this week? Where did they find these chef? What's happening to this show? It's going from awful to dreadful to ???
Why is this show still on the air?

Could this finally be a signal of the demise of this awful programme?
I hope so. I yearn for a time when I can look forward to an evening with a fun food and cookery show.
If not, then hopefully it returns completely revamped (eg no Tana)

babsky, they weren't working together for most of the show so hard to gauge.
The chefs were dreadful as TV guests but the food was very inviting. I love tapas so probably my bias coming through.

basky, I don't know either. Does she own a restaurant? While it's nice in some ways, there seems to be a lot of completely unknown chefs lately for some reason. Cost reduction?
Either I'm missing it or they aren't explaining where they're coming from?

Jack, I don't think your view of Tana is flawed, but as a celebrity we only think of them in ways that the media have told us to view them. Hence the media are portraying her in a certain way, especially revolving around the issues about motherhood, children, kids food and other politically correct topics the media handlers tell us about.
So your view is exactly as the one that's been put forward by the media. That's just good marketing.
But in no way would "snob" apply in the way I use the word. "Posh", "upper class", "high breeding" perhaps, but not snob.
I think that, because she's not very good on television, people come up with all sorts of ways of saying how they don't like her without really explaining themselves very well.

Pocket, your post made me laugh!!
There are posters that continue to post how much they like MK and that is fantastic. Lots of people are watching it. But that doesn't mean that those that don't like it should stop posting.
Particularly since there is the very possibility of UKTVFood putting on daily reruns of GFL which many people are asking for.
Then MK viewers could have their programme and GFL viewers theirs too!
And, maybe it is because we're British......

Scalywitch, take no mind of MickeyT.
Rather than comment on things TV or food, he only posts aggressive attacks on other posters that express a dislike for MK. Yet he has no positive contributions or suggestions in any of his posts. He actually never says anything good about MK oddly enough. Just click on his name to get all his posts and you'll see the thread of thought there. Just "negative" in general I suppose.
It's best just not to respond to his diatribes.
While if I were in the same employ as MickeyT, I too would probably feel the same way as there is a sense of desparation that MK has to "get better" amongst everyone in the production team. It just lacks gravitas in any form.
Hopefully it does improve with the new season but as it stands now, it's a turkey through and through.

Jack, thanks for such a vivid posting
As for tripe, did you not like it for the taste or was it because of what it is? I grew up on tripe due to an Italian grandmother that lived through WWII and couldn't give it up - for some reason.
So now as an adult, I find it oddly pleasing both in flavour and texture.
As for pigs testicles I had them twice in Coloardo in a sandwich because they were called "mountain oysters" and I honestly thought they were scrumptious. When I was told what they were I could not bring myself to eat them again.
Odd...it's all psychology I guess?

I'm looking forward to hopefully significant alterations to MK upon its return.
Not only some of gastro's excellent suggestions above but many others posted here for the past four months also.
For me, some more attention to hygeine would be a good start with MK. One of these days they're going to make some of the cafe audience very sick!

Two questions: are they showing Market Kitchen repeats anywhere on UKTV? and will the show return at the old 8PM timeslot in September?

L v and Reed, I couldn't agree more! The break has been most welcome and the programming in general seems to have been more varied and interesting. Still all repeats, though excpet for that awful Rhodes Insults India.
But the break from MK has indeed been good.

Yay, new Nigella! Winderful.
I too have far too many cookbooks and reams of recipes stuck in little folders everywhere. Some reainy days I just love to read through cookbooks. It's addifctive.
But I do not like cookbooks without photos.
I too really love to watch Barefoot Contessa. A great TV program in many ways but her way of making recipes sound so simple is a real talent. I know there is awlways editing, but she's always so calm sounding. Brilliant show.
