The moment I see him on my screen I switch it off. My blood boils just looking at him and hearing his new-found posh accent.

This thread is funny!
What exactly is the point of the SK omelette challenge? A laugh it is, but I'm trying to figure out what it is supposed to prove.

Well this show will never go down as one of the better cooking programmes from Britain, it has improved since those early days. It was unawatchable for the first few months.
Now everyone seems to have settled in and watching it for a quarter hour or so is quite do-able.
They really do need to add some elements of interest, though.

Has Rosemary Shrager been on Market Kitchen in the past? I am envisioning her paired up with Diana Henry as presenter. Who would interrupt the most?

A really excellent point schmaltz....Market Kitchen is like evey other chop-and-chat food programme on the air. Saturday Kitchen, etc...there's a million of them. But MK stands out because it is so terribly produced and the hosts are so lacking in any TV skills.

I think there are many out there like Mikey and Viz, who used to be loyal and avid UKTVFood viewers that have just been so truned-off by recent progamming decisions they've abandoned the channel. I know it's more or less true for me as well.
My sentiments lie with Viz, I too wish GFL could return to our screens soon.
Someone else asked earlier, too, why couldn't they show repeats of great GFL shows over the holidays rather than wasting their time cobbling up awful snippets from Market Kitchen?? Was there an answer anywhere to this question?

Exactly, hob! And did anyone try to find something watchable this weekend on UKTVFood?? Abysmal.

UKTVFood programming is simply abysmal in the last year. In fact, I would say it is insulting. They apparently think they can shove down any garbage and we'll just watch? I don't think so.
Look how the ratings go up when they air quality shows like Rick Stein! It should be obvious to them why their ratings are in the gutter, but apparently not?

Very funny gastro!!
But I was thinking almost farce level, like a Monty Python's Flying Circus doing the show. Too obvious, perhaps?

This MSG topic has ignited elsewhere too, I just made a post somewhere else. TVFoodie and ChicknLikn, you have overreacted grossly to the issue of MSG. It is relatively harmless compared with other things you may ingest, including salt!!
Regardless, I'm so glad someone has brought up the topic of additives to our daily foods. These chemicals can be found in prepared foods, breads, cakes and even fruits and vegetables.
Did you know most citrus is "gassed" to help coloration! Here's a great link of E-numbers [link]
But of everything that is being added, MSG is hardly a major worry! [link] So I wouldn't panic Arthur!!

Yes, I think everyone realises GFL has had its day and is now gone
What is so lamentable, though, is how UKTVFood has almost singlehandedly destoyed the reputation of good food progamming that Britain had been nurturing around the world.
All I can say is thank God for the BBC.

Well since it was quickly put out of its misery it sounds as though your programming executives down there have a bit more common sense than ours here
If it has already been tried and failed, why try it again here? And as it is failing here now as it did there, why not just axe it and save the big money?

eeeuuwww. I know you are serious, but I can see how popular this topic is now [NOT!!] and why it got such a bad reception from the viewers of Market Kitchen!
It's just not "main stream" enough. I don't even know why they put it on Market Kitchen to tell the truth?

Brillaint post, Mat-b, that about sums it up doesn't it? Whilst unending debates about ratings "success" can never be resolved, the points you've made about the actual production of the show is food for thought.
Yes, there are other people out here that share your sentiments about this show. GFL was a favourite of mine also but I like almost any cooking show, that's why MK is in some ways a surprise.
I also had very high hopes for Market Kitchen and have wanted it to succeed but it is SO dry and boring it seems beyond hope now. An utter failure as a cooking show. I have now also concluded that the show is "utter rubbish". It clearly hasn't been "early jitters" as the show has gotten worse. And now they've added a fifth and perhaps sixth presenter? .
Clearly the "Children in Restaurants" issue was simply one of those tired media creations where they try to stir up "controversy", just like the silly 80% sausage "issue" brought up by Nora here. Tiresome.
I can't believe they haven't brought up "Breast Feeding in Restaurants" to really stir up a hornet's nest!! Manufactured controversy, the 21st century media's major product.
I also think most of us continue to watch Market Kitchen "on occasion", but you're right, GFL had a religious, loyal following.
Your conclusion that it is the presenters I think, on balance, is correct. Many have made this comment with various criticisms and complaints with a majority pointed towards Tana. While Market Kitchen has myriad flaws, if the "presenter issue" were to be corrected the vast, vast majority of complaints would vanish IMHO. They simply aren't skilled at TV presenting.
While I don't know if it is snobbery exactly, the choice of ingredients and the general "up market-ness" of the programme can certainly be a turn-off to some.
The guest chefs are definitely NOT at ease. They all appear awkward or not confident on what to do next, what camera to look at (so they don't) and just otherwise are not brought to their full potential.
No one likes the trendy camera work, even devoted MK fans. Some of the stauchest supporters of the show have complained about this. It's like that first series of Jamie Oliver that gave every one a headache. What's the point, really?
Alak and alas, no one seems to know why a second season was produced without any improvements....

And neither am I, BBQ, but maybe for different reasons.
While have no doubt that many many people do like Market Kitchen there is clearly something about this show that either bores or, in my case, irritates others.
It is far from being my fav programme.

IMHO it is not a case of "right" or "wrong", just simple tastes and opinion.
There are those that love Market Kitchen, those that do not. There are those that loved Great Food Live and those that did not.
Not really an issue in my mind.
One has to ask why, though, that there seems to be so much controversy...MK appears, at least, to be *almost* as disliked as Gary Rhodes - and that's really saying something!
