Stopped watching UKTVFOOD when GFL finished - STILL missing it after all this time. It was informative, fun and entertaining. Everything MK is not!
Like everyone else on this site I'm now watching main channels.
Unfortunatley I don't get to listen to Jenny on LBC - shame they don't have 'Listen Again' facility like the BBC, but from her Blog it sounds like she is having fun and chatting with some of her old friends from GFL.
Let's hope she is back on tv again soon, although I doubt it will be on UKTVFOOD...the 'powers that be' probably are not too keen on 'humble pie'!!

Suggest you all head over to the GFL message board - there is an official update by the people at UKTV Food posted a few minutes ago....it seems they "do" listen to our likes and dislikes after all!
Thankfully they are not going to delete the recipes and video clips from GFL, which is more than can said about some post's that appear to go "missing"!!

I dipped in again last night – in between watching the Neneh Cherry thing on BBC1 – I can’t believe half the programme seemed to be taken up with how to cook fish and chips! If this was being aimed at people new to cooking or “student” types then I could understand it, but really! They must know that fans of UKTV Food are a little more advanced in their cooking skills than this basic stuff.

Mind you, the Neneh Cherry prog was a bit weird. The two of them must have spent a small fortune on the ingredients. And by the way, where are we going to get a box of edible tulips/roses this side of the Thames? The one thing about the programme though was that they were having a genuinely good time cooking it (MK take note), and they had the sense to mention at the end that ALL of the food was eaten (there was masses of fish!). They also seem to have aquired the poor cameraman from MK who really must do something about their “shaky hand” syndrome.

Anyway, back to MK – the bit about the cheese was fairly interesting (although GFL has done this on several occasions) and I’m afraid I turned over when the "Generation Game" bit with peeling the turnip or whatever came on.

Tom P.B. is probably the best of the presenters and with a bit more work will, I think, get a lot better. Only time will tell…?

OK Frizbomb - I agree that some bits on The F Word were OK, but to be honest you wouldn't know it was the same production company making MK would you? I'm really not sure who they are aiming the programme at? You have to say the "messy" pie last night was pretty basic stuff - hardly what a Waitrose customer would appreciate!!
I'm all for letting programmes "settle-in" but I think they have misjudged the the target audience on this one...?

Well I watched ten minutes on Monday night (can’t remember what I saw) and half an hour last night, including the recipe for Sheperds(?) Pie. I’m sure it tasted very nice but it didn’t look too appetizing on the plate after TPB’s attempt at dishing it up!
Again, I have to comment on those “extras” walking or sitting around aimlessly. Does the programme need them? I guess the “Trendies” will say it makes it look “fresh and exciting” but I have to disagree.
There have been some very unfair comments made about the presenters and that’s the problem – they are not presenters. It just goes to show what a difficult job it must be making it look easy, eg Jeni, Scofield, Britton etc. so it must be very nerve racking for the four people on MK.
The other main problem is the timing of the show – UKFood viewers have become used to seeing a “flagship” programme on it’s peak time slot of 6pm, so why isn’t it on at that time?
Not sure if the exec’s at UKFood/Waitrose will pay much attention to the comments on these pages, but if they want to maintain good viewing figures they would do well
to take on board some of the suggestions made by LOYAL UKTVFood fans.
Finally, who said The F Word was a great show?

Only got to see half an hour of the programme last night. From previous comments it looks as if they have stopped the "quirky" camera shots. Not quite sure what all the people sitting around like extra's are supposed to be doing? When the presenter was making the salad there was cut to 3 people sitting at a table and they looked bored stiff!
Not a great deal to grab my attention.
I think it is very hard to come up with a winning formula for a food programme (GFL had it!) as it's all been done before.
The presenters didn't look comfortable and yes, it is early days, but unless they inject a little more of what GFL had then I'm afraid I can't see it lasting that long.
I'll take a look next week in the hope that it has improved.
I also think they have lost a huge audience just from not broadcasting it at the 6pm slot. As another person said there are loads of other programmes to watch on the "mainstream" channels at this time of day.
FINALLY - please stop saying GFL had run it's course and was outdated. Try saying that to Sir Patrick Moore who has been going 50 years on BBC with his "The Sky at Night" programme.

WELL DONE JENI &GFL!!

A really funny last show. You only have to read all of the messages here to see how much you and all the team will be missed. We'll be tuning in for the "best bits" programme on Monday.
Let's hope you will all be reunited in some way, shape or form on TV soon.

Missing you already....

Hello amfish,

Too late for you to see this maybe, but I'll be taping the show so if you don't get a friend or relative to do it for you then let me know.

A really big THANK YOU to Jeni and all the guests and team at GFL.
Sadly, we only came to GFL 2 years ago, but since then it has become part of our evening "ritual". Informative, educational, funny and ENTERTAINING! All of the things sadly lacking from today's "Big Brother" TV. We only hope Jeni and the gang manage to "morf" into some new show on UKTV Food. It would be all the poorer without them.
Anyway, GOOD LUCK to everyone - YOU ARE ALL STARS !!!

Mike & Debbie xx

ps -How about a DVD of some of the best bits and recipes?

To the UKTV Food Team,
At last I've found a reply from "the powers that be". Yes, it is your most successful and long running show and, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Isn't this reason enough to continue with what is an entertaining, informative and fun show? It doesn't look tired or old and Jenni is a wonderful presenter. This is now my fourth post on the topic. Nothing has ever made me want to return to a keyboard as much as this.
I can only hope, as you say, that Jennie remains with UKTV Food, as it will all the poorer if she was to leave.

Just a little though for the programme exec's at UK Food - "You don't know what you've missed 'till it's gone".

Sorry, but this is now my third "rant" this morning - I agree with all of what's been said about GFL. Give Jenni and the team a new show at the weekend. Anything to replace all of those repeats that are shown over and over again. Cost may come into it I guess, but I bet there has been no expense spared on the new "fake" market stall set for the new weekday show.
This has to be my last update of the day as I'm starting to shake with rage now...!!!

Has anyone from UK Food got the guts to come on the site and give an explanation - I doubt it? I'm still so annoyed about this. What were the "men in suits" thinking? "We have a really popular programme with great content and a brilliant presenter - lets axe it!!" Have to go as I'll be ranting about this all dayt if I don't stop now!

Graca Queen...sorry, I haven't been on-line for a few days and have only just seen your request. I see that Rosti has given the recipe to you now. You can also see it on The Times website. We first saw it in the Sunday Times magazine a few weeks back.

Thanks to all who replied to my question re Frangelico. We finally hunted it down to a Brighton Oddbins, although it seems not all of their outlets sell the same thing! We also found it a couple of days later in Waitrose in Lewes, for a few pounds less than we paid at Oddbins!
The pudding was a great success and can recommend it.

Thanks a bunch for that...needed it by tomorrow for a party, but it'll be worth keeping as a link for future ref.

We are making the Gordon Ramsey peanut & cherry pudding that was the highlight of the Posh & Beck's summer bash. The recipe was featured in a recent Sunday supplement. Frangelico is one on the ingredients but after searching high and low we can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where you can get it, or is there an alternative liquor you can use?

All our fellow guests cleared their plates so I guess we can say it was a success. I think the trick is to have the beetroot and cauliflower at room temperature so you get a better taste and flavour. I would recommend this as a dinner party dish that was just a bit different.

Desperately need help here....has anyone made this recipe and if so is the cauli cream supposed to be cold, warm or hot? It doesn't give any clues on the receipe, but it seems the cauli is added to the cream from ice cold water. Cold cauli doesn't sound all that appetizing - or is it me?
Doing this as a dinner party dish tonight so need assistance QUICK!!
Many thanks
Mike
