About the awards
Local Food Heroes is back for the third year and we're scouring the length and breadth of the nation to find those businesses that help put great food on our plates.
The UKTV Local Food Hero Awards are a tribute to Britain's independent food businesses and we’re asking food lovers to nominate, vote for, and reward their food heroes' passion for providing great local food. We'd love you to nominate your favourite food hero for an award. Please see our general terms and conditions and voting terms and conditions. If you would like to nominate or vote, you need to be over 18 and a UK resident. Registration is also required. Please note that voting will close on 14 July, 2008.
The nomination and voting process is easy. Once votes are in, an independent panel of judges, will use our criteria to select the five best nominees in each region that best demonstrate commitment to producing, selling or serving exceptional food. The final decision rests with a leading independent chef.
In November, you will be able to follow the final search for the winner, when we broadcast Local Food Heroes 2008. The series will celebrate the strongest contenders from each region, and at the end of each episode, a regional winner will be selected based on the criteria set for the campaign. In the nail-biting final, all ten regional winners will then battle it out for the honour of being crowned UKTV’s Local Food Hero 2008. One food hero will be awarded the highly coveted £40,000 prize to invest back into their business and transform lives – a dream wish come true.
