James Martin's Great British Winter Cookbook

James Martin's Great British Winter Cookbook offers a great selection of seasonal recipes for everyday cooking with fresh home-grown produce.

Seasonal cooking is making a revival. The novelty of being able to buy anything you want at any time of year has given way to an awareness that good food tastes better in season and the impact that food miles are making on the environment.

James Martin's new book is a celebration of seasonal, home-grown food. The Yorkshire-born chef asserts, "The joy of having seasons is cooking different ingredients and different types of dishes...cold-weather favourites like pumpkins, parsnips and potatoes; cod and mussels; pheasant, goose and beef."

Locally-sourced ingredients abound in a selection of traditional recipes like Sussex Pond Pudding, Honey-glazed Ham with Spiced Apple and Cider, Apple Charlotte, and Yorkshire Ham Terrine.

Inevitably, the book is not limited to British ingredients, James also includes more exotic combinations, and dishes like Thai Chicken Cakes with Sweet Chilli Sauce include many ingredients you wouldn't find in a box scheme delivery. But at least he's tried!

Bonfire Night, Halloween and New Year are all covered in the book with old favourites like Toffee Apples and a fantastic Bloody Mary (for your hangover) nestling along stranger combinations like Ginger and Butternut Squash Ice Cream (he assures us this really is good).

Christmas is given special attention with a countdown guide that will help you organise everything from ordering your bird to getting the dinner on the table on the day. All the Christmas recipes are here and each is given just a little flair: Turkey with Orange, Rosemary and Gravy, Brussel Sprouts with Chestnut and Bacon, Sausage and Bacon Wraps with Sage and Honey, plus your roast veg, Christmas pudding, Brandy Sauce and Redcurrant Jelly.

With mouth-watering photography and a selection of recipes that really are practical for home-cooking. This is book that is never dull and will see you through to warmer weather.
