I was watching today's episode where Sat and Glynn were cooking their fish courses. I may be wrong but I'm sure Sat's sous chef was the guy from Masterchef Goes Large. A short stocky/plump fella with designer stubble. I think he got through to the semi finals or final a year or so ago! Did anybody else notice this guy? I'm tearing my hair out now 'cause I just don't know!!!! :0)

Thank you so much talulahhh. So I was right and I still have some hair left after all of that pulling!!!

It was really nice to see a previous winner forging ahead without any fuss, media attention or their own television programme (sorry Tomasina!). He obviously wants to learn from the best and make his mark. Good for him.

"It was really nice to see a previous winner forging ahead without any fuss, media attention or their own television programme (sorry Tomasina!). He obviously wants to learn from the best and make his mark. Good for him."

- What an ignorant comment to make!!!

The Masterchef competition is supposed to make the champion to move forward & make the best of what he/she learnt from the show!

Tomasina achieved that - with her own restaurant & fronting 2 great tv shows (without fuss nor media attention seeking lifestyle)!!!

Whereas Steve Wallis is going backward & I feel a bit sad for him as I like him & wished he's done more for himself out of his experience not to mention him winning the Masterchef 2007...& not just becoming a sous chef!!!

And what was so ignorant about my comment?

The guy isn't just a sous chef. He's obviously smart enough to realise that he doesn't yet know it all. He's learning from one of the best and no doubt has plans to open his own restaurant in time. With such a high percentage of new restaurants failing then I think he is being very smart. As my old dad used to say, "sometimes you need to take one step backwards in order to reach your final destination".

Another ignorant reply!

Get your facts right before expressing what you believe is right!

You said Steve is "still" learning from one of the "best" on this show & that's after 1 year!!!!

Well if you must know right after he won Masterchef he became an apprentice at Le Gavroche...I should know as I met & talked to him last year at Taste of London at Regents Park who told me himself he will be working at Le Gavroche.

Now..you could not have a better mentor than Michel Roux who is in fact really one of the best & respected chef in the country!!!

And you stated he's going to open his restaurant when Tomasina has done just that & you're implying that Tomasina is nowhere near Steve's calibre?????

I think you need to wake up a bit more!!!

Oh & another thing you said "he's not just a sous chef"???

So what's he doing in the show assisting Sat then???? Don't tell me he's there to act as mentor to Sat... lol!!!

Jeez cool your jets babsky! I thought this was a friendly and welcoming forum? I think I've posted in a friendly and approachable manner so why the hostility?

Anyway what is so wrong about being a worthy lieutenant to the captain? They're an essential part of the kitchen and invaluable if you find a good one. If he is happy, content and feels that he is progressing then who are we to put him down? You accuse me of insulting Tomasina but you are doing that very thing with your comments about Steven Wallis!

I would have thought that what a finalist on Master Chef goes on to afterwards will depend very much on opportunity and personal goals.

Perhaps more opportunities came Tomasina’s way, maybe by her good fortune than anything else?

Or maybe Steve Wallis just wanted to increase his skills and experience before branching out on his own?

Steve Wallis has a blog site if anyone's interested - google will find.
