Well Rosti I am very sorry to say I dont care for Market Kitchen but that is my opinion and I had enjoyed greatly reading other views in this post which is why I kept responding. My mum was a chef and a fantastic 1 at that, [arent all mums, chefs or not], I have never been able to conquer her garlic meatballs, recipes a million none are as good, now she isnt here to tell me sadly, she has left me a few gems though. As for food I cant eat shellfish, luckily my children love it. Seein as I am a newby Rosti what about you? A side from MK what programmes inspire you, any recipe books to recommend?

Well I think the whole point was how much Jeni has been missed over the past year, that UKTVFood is not the same and many [yes, not all] past loyal viewers have simply stopped watching. IMHO, GFL was definitely a far better programme than Market Kitchen ever could be. MK is just to dire and boring. Jeni always was having a great time, and we loved watching that.

In the last three weeks published, MK viewing figures are, in reverse order.

57k
68k
46k

On par or well above GFL during the same period.

PS thanks Rosti but it's a battle that's just getting so boring after 12mths. of the same comments over and over again. Why don't this handfull of people just realise it is NEVER coming back and let it rest.
If MK is that bad why watch it and then comment on that which they don't like watching???????

I loved GFL and I like MK.
The idea that you can be part of the show, being able to taste and test the dishes brings your involvement to another level.
What I don't understand is why everyone is arguing. Is there a pecking order in who gets to speak?
Who are Barshdale and Rosti? Do their comments 'lord' over everyone else? Why can't Te C say what they want to say? Surely that is what debate and opinions are about?
p.s. great recipe for toast - saute some mushrooms in a pan, add some smooth pate and a splash of cream, warm through and spread over hot toast Tongue

Well I disagree with schmaltz. In many ways Market Kitchen has morphed directly into Great Food Live, unfortunately without Jeni though. It has exactly the same format. Bring a chef in, cook somethin, taste test, have a chat session, a food history segment, bring in another chef, cook something, taste test, yada yada yada. That's exactly the same as GFL!!

What is different is the weird camera angles, the phalanx of rotating hosts and the taste tests are now done by phony cafe attendees, rather than the chefs themselves.

Big deal.

It's the same show. Just sadly without Jeni.

In answer to Chris's first post.
I do not lord over anyone, just express an opinion which we all have a right to do.
Thank you also for that fantastic recipe for Mushrooms on Toast. I doubt if any of us would have ever thought of that unusual combination.

Don't post here much anymore, I've had my peace. But I do want to comment on TacoPete's interesting comment on how Market Kitchen has slowly become a redone GFL. In many ways he's right. Essentially they've stripped everything that was great about GFL away (the "great" and the "live") leaving just "food", added a couple new and trendy elements and repackaged the same show. I watch it still from time to time but certainly MK doesn't have any of the gusto that GFL did. The boards used to be alive with recipe ideas, food debates and just great give and take. Now it just seems to be the world against rosti and barsh. No point in that really. I do admire their undying rebuttals, though. MK has just sapped all the enthusiasm and love of "the daily food broadcast" from the audience I fear.

Don't give up. While GFL surely will never grace our screens again (except perhaps for late night repeats) there is always the hope and chance that UKTVFood will wake up and improve their programming.

Clearly they only have the budget for one or two shows simulataneously (MK+the other short series like Rhodes Insults India). But that doesn't mean that MK Can't be re-jigged or some new programme developed to replace it.

Don't give up! Actually, it can only get better.

Hello Dougy Boy, this will be my last post as my others seemed to cause a few heated words. But for the last time I agree hole heartedly about the repeats and the lack of enthusiasm on other shows, however I have seriously enjoyed the great bitish menu and the Kylie Kwon series in China which I thought were excellent, the later not being long enough, only half an hour. Lets hope that something better than MK and if we can hope better than GFL will grace our screens again, we live in hopes eh!
Signing out, hopefully TeC

I wouldn't sign out Te C. A lot of people still miss Great Food Live after all this time. You can actually detect the producers of MArket Kitchen trying to emulate GFL at evey turn - they even had TPB fire up a Weber grille outside of the studio!! And now we have the dreadful Amanda Lamb trying to emulate Jeni Barnett. The producers of this show are totally clueless. That they keep it in production is the biggest mystery of them all.
