sagat, you can get a blow-by-blow daily blog from Jeni at her website www.jenibarnett.com

It's quite humourous. She always see the "ood" thing about the most common everyday experiences. It's no wonder she was so good on GFL!! Big Grin

"moonscape" Big Grin Big Grin good one, cooking4one!! They really do need to relook their repeats schedule. Jeez.

Don't jump the gun, Mickey! This is not the first time MK has got figures like this. It's the long haul that counts, as rosti indicated with GFL.

Quite right TVFoodie it's not the first time MK has got figures like this, it is getting them every week now. The trend is up.

I know I'm a bit late in the day, but I am so with MK
The show has a totally unprofessional feel it and I utterly detest it !
To have presenters like TPB who have absolutely no idea about
culinary matters using there "names" to get on TV shows is disgusting !
I seriously wish they would bring back Good Food live, it was informative,
professional and well presented ! .....maybe it was just too expensive !
MK is one of the few programs on UK Food I refuse to watch.

Rant over !

Well hardly a rant lunberjack, you're just expressing the viewpoint of so many foodies. And their frustration with UKTVFood. Market Kitchen is totally unwatchable from so many angles. Worse for me is that the recipes are so not worthy of consideration. They are no where near food I'd try at home. It's just unprfoessional claptrap. Garbage TV.

Jumberjack, I too wish for the day they bring back GFL. That would be terrific. MK does indeed have its fairshare of untalented presenters, that's why it has that "unprofessional feel" as you call it.

Many do indeed detest this show, some for the reasons you have stated but also for many, many other reasons too. For me, it's the recipes themselves. Nothing that inspires me to cook, really.

So I also seriously wish they would bring back Good Food Live, for me it was informative, entertaining, fun, professional and well presented !

If MK gets higher ratings than GFL it is a sad comment on the taste of the British public and their interest in food. I have made several attempts to watch MK but find it too gimmicky and relying on names rather than people with real knowledge.

With GFL I loved not only the recipes but the information on wines and environmentally responsible food purchasing.

I still cook a lot of GFL recipes, but have rarely been tempted to try a MK one.

I so wish we could bring back the wonderful show Great Food Live with Jeni Barnett. It was such a joy to watch and really revolutionary television as it was the only live daily food programme anywhere. It was such a blunder to cancel this wonderful show.

I too wish we could just get rid of this Market Kitchen programme. It's terrible.

No need for GFL I suppose, even though it was 1000% better.

I think that's the point. The quality of food programming on UKTVFood has just gone into the toilet over the past year.

Hi Rosti

A belated Happy New Year to you and yours.

Haven't been on the message board for a wee while, mainly due to family illness (mum's on the way out) but also because I got weary of the negativity on the board. I'm sad to see that it's not gone away - today I notice one poster posting the same comment multiple times on various threads - not sure what the motivation is for that.

However, it's good to read the posts of the stalwarts - even those I disagree with - because in the main, what they say makes sense and the posts are entertaining. To me that's the point of the posting community.

Hope you are well

all the best
jan

Hi Jan, and a great New Year to you too.

Sorry to hear about your Mum, I really hope she is comfortable.

Yes, the negativity is still a feature here, but not as much as it used to be.

Some of us are trying to make it a better place. We don't all have to agree, we can agree to disagree, and still have some fun along the way.

The site, as a whole, is supposed to be about food and people's enjoyment of food.

Come back soon, don't loose touch.

Hug Hug

I posted a year ago and was upset with the loss of GFL but we move on. I cant see why people are still banging on about MK. If they are still posting about how bad it is now then they are still watching...why if it is so bad!

All good things come to an end, you just have to accept it, but keep going on about it.....

We really enjoyed Jenny and GFL. My boys still watch UKTVF from time to time but her loss is Power Rangers gain i'm afraid.

Our feelings were made known a year ago cant we let it RIP?

Woody, I too feel I've made my point about how I felt about the loss of Great Food Live. We have to move on but it IS striking the feelings that still linger.

To answer your question, at least from my perspective, why people still watch Market Kitchen even though they don't care for it: it's the only daily food show on TV, anywhere. So if you like food programmes, you're pretty much stick with it.

That's my best guess.

Hi all

Many thanks for your kind words and thoughts. In essence that's what's drawn me back to the board - the people. So thanks again.

I watched MK last week and was quite impressed with the young chef Aaron Craze. He seemed very assured in front of the camera and apart from the tattoos (which distracted me somewhat!) - I think that he has real potential. Well done and good luck to him, but also, well done to Jamie Oliver and his people for seeing and helping to develop that potential. I was less impressed with Thomasina Miers (sp) - but maybe that's a hangover from the Masterchef series as I felt then that she was a one trick pony with her focus on Mexican food.

cheers all
jan
