Do the powers up in Ivory Towers read this message board? If so, then I think we (i.e. "the viewers") deserve some kind of explanation as to the watering down of UKTV Gold (I much preferred it when was called UK Gold. Wasn't so much effort to pronounce). I have noticed that UKTV Drama and UKTV People have also started showing a mixture of programming shown on UKTV Gold. The whole UKTV network is a shambles and basically made up of channels duplicating programming. Is that really value for money in our subscriptions? I don't think so.
Many people have pointed out on this topic that UKTV Gold no longer shows anything that is remotely "gold" anymore. Much of the programming is literally a couple of years old. Whatever happened to the real classics UK Gold used to transmit? The channel was unique when it launched in 1992 but ever since the late nineties it's been a shadow of its former self.
Where can we view real British classics nowadays once shown on the BBC? I know ITV3 shows a mixture of vintage ITV programming (once screened on UK Gold) but many BBC classics seem to have been lost. UKTV Gold needs to be relaunched back into the unique channel it once was. I am sick to the back teeth with seeing "boxsets" of Only Fools & Horses. How many more times will this be repeated? If it's not that, it's Dinnerladies, One Foot In The Grave, My Family, My Hero, The Thin Blue Line.
Whatever happened to Top of the Pops being rerun? Why is The Bill always rewound to circa 1998 whenever it catches up with itself? Why can't we see it from day one in 1984? Why can't we see classic reruns of EastEnders from 1985? Why is Neighbours shown on a graveyard slot? Whatever happened to anything being shown on UKTV Gold pre-1998?
Get your act together, UKTV, and sort your channels out because they are a con. Oh, and one other thing: please drop the "UKTV" brand and rename your channels "UK (whatever)".
Yours,
A disgruntled viewer.
